I want an x100.

I got to use one today, this girl on the train had one. Very cool, hellaciously awesome-looking, good handling, excellent noise-handling, and nice and inconspicuous. I would, however, like to give one a try for a week so I can make a decision.

Thoughts?

Do it man. They're absolutely beautiful. You're making noise about dropping digital altogether to invest more in film, which I respect for sure, but I don't think you could survive without something to capture digital. I tried one in store and loved it too, according to the guy in the store it competes with the 5D2 in noise-handling. I wouldn't say it's quite there but pretty darn close. I say do it. You won't be tempted to buy glass for it either, which is a plus, since you could spend more on 645. lol.

I don't think I would spend any more money on 645, save for a 40-50mm for some wider scenes. I'm comfortable with my setup currently, but the 50D just isn't the everyday shooter I wanted. Highlight DR is insanely terrible, and the high-ISO banding in tungsten light is sometimes irritating. I'm not printing much out of the 50D lately, and maybe I either need to slow it down and just wait out a slow period of frustration, or digital to paper isn't for me. I don't know, it's not really a matter of indecisiveness per se, but I am glad I didn't double down and buy out that 1DIV.

I hear you. It's always a gamble I find... What looks good on your monitor might not print so well. But sometimes there are nice surprises. Like ISO 3200 is actually standable from my D90 on 8x10 matte where as on a screen it's murder. If you have the cash, are comfortable with the single lens, and you know you're going to use it; go for it.

It's not so much noise reproduction, it's a matter of the look. The closest I can find that's pleasing to me is a D700, but it seems like prices on them have gone WAY up lately, and I'm not ready to dump everything and start investing in the Nikon system. Additionally, despite how good it is, I still can't seem to get a comfortable handle on anything Nikon makes.

Plus, it dicks me on the 1N, even though I'm pretty sure my nifty is permanently affixed to it.

Er, the girl or the camera?

And IIRC, someone on OCN had one for a while but sold it. I forgot who, but I think it may have been iandroo.
