Sli gtx 460 768mb

Thread Starter
So my current setup is dual monitors, 1440x900 and 1280x1024. I only use one to game (being the 1440x900) and the other one is just on msn while I game.
Does this affect my VRAM?

I currently have one GTX 460 768MB and plan on getting a second for $100 to run SLI, will 768mb cause a bottle neck on my resolution for games?

I can also get a 1GB GTX 460 SC for $120, but then I'd need to try and sell my current 768mb in order to sli, my third option is to just sell my 768mb and upgrade to a single 560ti or around there.

If you guys were in my situation, what would you do?

Depends what you really want, if your looking to play BF3 on ultra duel screen, then possibly might want the 1GB + version. For $100 for another 460 aint a bad deal. Might be well worth it. I'd overclock the two cards and SLI em. Just my opinion.

yea, thats a tough one. I would prob want to give SLI a shot if I haven't before for 100$, especially with OC'ing like Kaz stated. On the other hand that extra mem bandwidth on the 1GB could be quite helpful in the future.
here is some good info on the cards you are speaking of. http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1360/1/

You mean does having a game on one monitor + 'browsing' 2d window use more vram than it would on just the one monitor you're gaming on? Test it and see, use Afterburner graphs, it'll be hella easy, and let us all know

If you think you'll be gaming at 1400x900 (or 1680x1050 tops) for awhile longer, then SLI the cards you've got, that's best bang for buck I'd think.. the SLI setup is WAY faster than the 560ti if you're not using all the vram up. Which in most games can be managed somewhat w/texture size and AA level and such. IOW, it'd be rare that you had no other choice but to drop resolution if you had a 1080p monitor and the SLI setup, you'd just have to be willing to compromise other ways on occasion.

Otherwise if you wanna avoid the vram risk I'd look at selling and upgrading to the 560ti if you can get the scratch together ...

Exactly, when I have time I'll test it out haha, just thought someone would know.
Yeah the only thing I'm concerned about is VRAM, like BF3 alone takes 1.4GB? Only worried that newer games will require more VRAM.
