However for some reason when I go from the TV to the home stereo via RCA Cables the sound does not give a true 5.1 surround IDK. Maybe because the input in the back of the TV is only 2.1 where I'm plugging the 3.5 jack in ???
I was under the wrong impression that my TV had a Toslink in when it only has an out .
1. Each RCA plug/socket can only output/input one channel, so if you want 5.1, there should be a minium of four connectors plus a dedicated sub.
2. TOSLINK. Only the optical transmitter emits a red light, the receiver is permanently black (regardless of active or inactive states)
If your objective is to route surround sound audio to an dedicated AV tuner or active speakers; most people would use either an optical TosLink or S/PDIF (digital coaxial audio cable) usually a single RCA.
