Raid

Can some explain what RAID is, the different types. I've googled a bit. But either I'm really tired or I just completely suck at grasping the concept. Thanks

The only types I fully understand and can explain are raid 0 and 1. With raid 0 you're using both drives as 1 single larger drive. This allows for much faster speeds but if one drive goes down all data is lost since it's split between the 2.

Raid 1 on the other hand is like having a constant back up of the main drive. Both drives will have the same data on them so if one dies everything is still safe on the other.

most common is RAID0 in desktop PC's. for the speed it can provide.

so any idea on how to convert from RAID 0 to 1, or so on?
