GTX 580 Classified 3 Monitor???

Thread Starter
Hi everybody!

Look I'm planning to change my EVGA GX2 9800 for a GTX 580 Classified so

Right now I'm using my 2 DVI outputs for my 2 PC Monitors and the HDMI output for a 42" Smart TV, I'm using as a 3rd optional monitor, but they're still in a 3 monitor extension configuration and I need it that way.

I want to get the GTX 580 Classified HC because I'm changing to Liquid Cooling and since my i7 has already a LC System, I've already tasted the power of OC and want to move forward on that, I've seen the 580 Classified its the best choice by far but... I see it only has 2 DVI Outputs and the other its for the EVBot.

Since I have no need for the EVBot and I only want to keep my 3 monitor setup.

I want to clear all my doubts about this before purchasing so here I go...

1. Can I plug some sort of splitter to one of the DVI Outputs in order to get 3 monitor Outputs?

2. If in some future I get another GTX 580 Classy for SLI, would I be able to plug 3 or 4 monitors if I want to?

3. Assuming a splitter could work, would that work for a future Eyefinity setup?

4. If not, would it do with a 2nd card in SLI?

5. Assuming there is no way of plugin 3 monitors to a GTX 580 Classy, Would the EVGA GTX 580 Hydro Copper 2 be an option for doing so? as for Eyefinity and all? (Since that one does have an HDMI output instead of the EVBot Plug)

I know those are many questions but want to be 100% sure before throwing away $800 and not being able to make the setup I want.

Thank you for reading, hope you have some answers =)

Nvidia cards can only have 2 screens from a single card, to run 3 screens in surround you need 2 cards in SLI. The other option is that you use the 580 to power your main screen and get something like a GT430 to power the other 2 screens.

Drifting for life is right you will need to have 2 screens per card if you want 3 screen set up you will need to either SLi your cards or get a lower card like a 460/470 to power the other two screens.

But then how am I able to run 3 monitors with my Single GX2 9800 right now? I mean, its nothing sofisticated anyway, just the windows setup for several monitors which allows me to have my desktop along the 3 monitors.

I just have 1 Graphics Card right now and 3 monitors pluged to it, 2 to its DVI outputs and 1 to its HDMI output, and it runs perfectly, I dont see why a new card with the same outputs couldnt be able to do the same.

I see... So I guess I was just lucky to have that card at first and being able to plug the 3rd monitor right away just like that...

Would the GTX 590 work then? Those are 2 GPUs too.

I'm not ignoring the SLI advice, I'm just not able to afford it right now, and getting air cooled less powered cards is just not an option for me right now, I've already bought all the Liquid Cooling components for the future card, anyone I decide, but WaterCooling for sure.

I'm also crazy for the 580 Classy, because it combines perfectly with my all Black & Red Rig plus the maximum power I can get in a single card, it just sucks that it can only take 2 monitors =/

590 should work, but remember about how multi-GPU cards treat VRAM.
