[Anand] Nvidia's Tegra 3 Arch revealed

Originally announced in February of this year at MWC, NVIDIA is finally officially launching its next-generation SoC. Previously known under the code name Kal-El, the official name is Tegra 3 and we'll see it in at least one product before the end of the year.

Like Tegra 2 before it, NVIDIA's Tegra 3 is an SoC aimed at both smartphones and tablets built on TSMC's 40nm LPG process. Die size has almost doubled from 49mm^2 to somewhere in the 80mm^2 range.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that Nvidia has been very difficult for 3rd party developers to work with due to not having open source support for their tegra devices.

I know I've heard a lot of this over at XDA, just wondering if anyone has some words of wisdom on this topic.

I do know that the drivers were released for vanilla Linux distros a while ago (at the request of the trim-slice developers).
Nvidia knows who is buttering their bread; They won't make a bad move by not making drivers available.

There could be a complaint about the drivers being binary blobs, but I don't see how open or closed drivers would affect the parts of the system a third-party developer would be interested in (I do wish that Nvidia would support open source drivers more like AMD does).

You and whoever told you this have no clue. The only thing you need the source to is the kernels, is those are already out there.

Calm your horses dude. I said it's what I heard, and asked for clarification. No reason to go galavanting around like a douche.
