Cool, I also got my Q6600 in 2008 with an Acer computer. It wasn't until 2010 that it was removed (due to me thinking it was dead) and 2013 that it saw the light in other motherboards, and found out the CPU was OK after all. Yes, 3 years unused. Ouch.

Been using my Q6600 @ 3.6 when it's hot or 3.8 when it's cold

450/1800 FSB x 8 or 475/1900 FSB respectively

I got it used well after it's prime

I have it lapped under a cm212 using MX-4 TMU and paired with a GTX 570 920Mhz on the core frankly it plays everything I want at or near full settings.

Frankly I feel no need to upgrade, i love it and would love to keep putting along, the chip however will stay with me forever. I actually love it.

The I5 760 nearly got me but it was pain in the but to find a decent motherboard.

I love reading about this monster because it actually is an amazing piece of computer history.

Is the BSEL mod that everyone is talking about the one where you put tape over one of the pads of the CPU? If it is, how long is that tape gonna hold up under there? Thanks.

Yes, it is. I never had an issue with the tape I used, which I think was blue painter's tape. I know I actually used two pieces, in order to cover two pads, but I don't remember for sure which positions I put them, but, I assure you, the mod worked for me, even on a prebuilt HP system. Just be sure your motherboard supports 1333MHz FSB.

If you can't find out what the correct pads to cover are, I'll check my own system if you like.

Additionally, here's an entertaining picture I found on the Internet:
