With that setup, you should have no trouble with Vista, but it is a hog! Up until last month, I always told people to go with XP on a new build. After trying Windows 7 Beta for the past month, I can't believe how much better it performs than Vista did. The interface at first reminded me of the old KDE desktop, and once all the Aero features are enabled, it's pretty slick! Gotta have Vista to upgrade to W7 in the future, so I'm now saying install Vista on a new build for a cheaper upgrade path when W7 releases.

Have fun with the build!

With the fsb left at 200 and ht at 1800, I've been able to boot with much lower voltages on this board. 3.2Ghz stable at 1.30v + 0.025v overvoltage, 3.4Ghz boot to windows at 1.38v + 0.050v overvoltage.

Once I start increasing the fsb, I have to push the voltage up much faster. Last time I tried 3.3Ghz with fsb at 220mhz, I had to set cpu to 1.45v + 0.075 overvoltage. That just to boot to Windows, not to run stable.

Yea that's low volts KUMA i need at least 1.44 to stay at 3.2mhz anything over that it wont stablize im wondering if it could be the ram im using on this mobo. Rebels forum say that biostar doesnt work well with Gskill.

From what I've read recently, Gskill isn't performing very well for overclocking these days, but I haven't used them myself. I've used Wintec AmpX on three builds with Biostar boards this year, and they have always performed above spec. On my sig rig, memory has never been an issue.

I don't know why, but up to 3.2, this particular chip runs great at lower voltages. Push it past that, and it gets as hungry as the next one!

El Gappo, I wouldn't push yours any higher till you get the temp under control. You're running pretty hot there!

Tried using lower nb and ht speeds, had some success, but haven't quite cracked 3.5Ghz yet.

Gonna get to 3.5 if it kills me!

ive found 3.214 the best performing for me with 16X201 and 1.424 volts because i can run my memory at full wack any higher and i have to tone it down to stock and even then its a bit iffy. bit surprised ive got to the highest stable with the stock cooler but o'well. got 3300 3d marks so far on my 8500gt lol cant wait till 9800gtx arrives
