Build update, help me ^^

Thread Starter
I currently have:

CPU: AMD II 455 Rana 3.1Ghz

GPU: XFX GT240 512MB

HDD: 320GB ripped from laptop, and 60GB ripped from PS3 as storage both 5200RPM?

PSU: Crappy 450W

Mobo: AM2 ECS GF8100vm-M5

And some HP 17" 1240 x 1024 monitor

I was wondering, I don't have alot of money but

I was thinking of these upgrades

http://www.ebuyer.com/290071-msi-7 [...] gm-p23-fx-

http://www.ebuyer.com/178943-corsa [...] 3m2a1333c9

http://www.ebuyer.com/194601-lg-w1 [...] 46s-bf-aek

Is there anything else I need to upgrade? Will I need a new CPU? I might get a GTS450 later on, not sure, don't have the money. If I buy these parts can I throw them in with what I have now?

Please help, thanks! !!

I wouldnt buy a low end MSI motherboard, since they have become notorious for catastrophic failure with AMD systems. A move to slow DDR3 isnt going to be a noticeable improvement really, although 2GB to 4GB ram would be noticeable in some games. Also if your going to do a monitor upgrade, it seems silly to me to get such a small one with low resolution when a few bucks more gets you 20"+ with decent resolution 20" 1600x900 for 75 pounds

Low end MSI boards have been reported to fail but everything that I have seen was only when overclocking, generally with an already high power cpu.
You will be able to drop your CPU in to that board with that new RAM and be set.
Like LuckySe7ens said, you won't see much of an increase from that low speed RAM but the performance gain of higher end RAM won't be worth the money so I say just go with the cheap stuff.

One thing to keep in mind if you upgrade your video card later on is that you probably want to upgrade your PSU too. Not that the 450 pulls much, just that you don't want to risk it with a cheap PSU.

Good luck with your upgrades, I know how hard it can be on a tight budget tongue.gif

OK This is what I'm thinking of now, is the mobo any good? Will the RAM work in it (doesn't say about unbuffered, etc)

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/255208

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/264749

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/276285

I also don't know about monitors so that monitor is OK I think (720?HD). So will all this work, is my CPU good enough?

I could also buy a GTS450 and drop the monitor, but I suspect my PSU is too bad to utilize the GTS450.

OK good I will get the dual channel RAM and I thank you smile.gif

Also will frame rates increase with this RAM? because only recently my computer has started to become very slow, although I reinstalled a new Windows 7 64bit a few weeks ago. Hopefully my 445 Athlon will unlock and be stable.

do you really need to upgrade your monitor? Why not just use the monitor money to buy better parts?
17 inch to 18 inch isnt much of a upgrade. you can shift that 70 pounds to a better motherboard like a gigabyte 770? or 780?

I like the kingston ram that someone suggested: http://www.ebuyer.com/234975-kingston-4gb-2x2gb-ddr3-1600mhz-hyperx-blu-memory-kit-cl9-1-65v-non-ecc-khx1600c9d3b1k2-4gx
I had those, very very nice rams. you can make then faster as well.

I dont know much about low end msi mobos, so i would take others words for it smile.gif

what is the main use of ur computer?
