Need help picking a new router to get

Thread Starter
My internet connection speed is 7.8mbps and upload is 8mbps

I was planning to get the linksys wrt54gl, would only having wireless-g bottleneck my internet speeds?

is there a better choice currently that would make a difference in speed?

No, Wireless G has a bandwidth of 54mbps..so unless you have 100mbps internet, it won't bottleneck. Only reason to get N instead of G is range and streaming video from computer to TV.

Yeah, the WRT54GL would work fine. Throw DDWRT or Tomato on it, it'll be even better.
