i7 Build for under $1500 AUD

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I'm looking to put a computer together for a friend, primarily for gaming. Mainly BF3 & the like.
Budget is $1500 AUD & it would be helpful to buy parts from either:
MSY
Umart
or PCCaseGear

Just want the best bang for buck really.. if its possible to save money in any areas I'd get 2* 6950's.

Requirements:

Case: Nothing fancy, as long as it can fit all components & has the potential to fit crossfire 6950's.
Ram: Not sure if he really needs 8gb for gaming.. would 4 be better?
HDD: Don't need a huge amount of storage, but I think the SSD path would be too expensive atm.

Mobo: Asus P8Z68-V
$188

CPU: i7-2600k
$332

HSF: Thermalright HR-02 Macho
$59

RAM: G SKill 8G(2x4G)DDR3 2133Mhz PC3-17000 F3-17000CL11D-8GBXL
$103

HDD: WD Caviar Black SATA3 1TB
$199

GPU: Sapphire ATI HD6950 2GB GDDR5
$289

Case: Antec Three Hundred Tower
$59

PSU: Antec Neo Eco 620
$88

ODD: SATA Samsung DL DVDRW
$19

MON: Samsung BX2450
$189

= $1525

I haven't built a computer in a few years.. so I'm a bit out of the loop, especially when it comes to DDR3 & GPUs:o

I greatly appreciate any input & will be sure to rep you!
new build :)

Well unless he really needs the extra threads from the 2600k, I'd go with the 2500k and save $100. Since it's used mostly for gaming, a quad core CPU is more than enough for pretty much all games out there right now. Having the extra threads will not affect gaming.

Otherwise, the build seems solid. You'll be able to run BF3 on high settings without a sweat, probably ultra as well if you were to turn down the AA. If you SLI the cards then Ultra will be a breeze.
