Another "Should I Upgrade" Thread

I understand that the general idea is "Do you have the money to?" or "Are you not happy with the performance of your card?"

My situation is that I have my GTS 450, I haven't bought many new games due to my old HP rig I had. With my current rig actually being powerful, I am going to be buying some higher end games for 1080p such as BF3, Metro 2033, Crysis 2, Skyrim, etc... I am just unsure at this time as to whether I could play these games at a nice/high settings.

If I were to upgrade I would probably go for an MSI 6950 or possibly wait for the 7000 series card which who knows when that would come out.

All suggestions are welcomed.

I would upgrade. A 560 Ti or 6950 is a good card for price/performance. Personally I would go with a 570 or 6970 though.

You will need to upgrade if you want to play those games on high settings. Just a heads up you can google how that card performance on certain games.

yes i would, im replacing my GTS450 after seeing how poorly it does in Metro2033 and Crysis2 DX11 mode. Just wasn't able to handle it.

The 560 Ti is an incredible card at a very attractive price point, and you always have the option of going SLI in the future. Grabbing one now, and a second one in a few months, may be a good idea.

If you want to go AMD, the 6950 is an excellent choice as well.

So I'm going to purchase the graphics card tonight, now I have decided to either go with a 6970 or a 570. The only problem is I plan on adding my second spare 22" screen that runs at 1680x1050 resolution. Would the extra vram help in this situation? I threw the 570 into the mix because it seems to keep on par with the 6970 in some games and absolutely blow it away in others. Also would my psu be able to handle SLI 570's down the road? Thanks a bunch!

Not unless you were going to game on them both, and afaik you can't do that anyway with different res monitors.

Easily. You could run SLI 580s with an 850w supply.

I bought a 570 and have never looked back at nearly buying that 6970. I game at a resolution that virtually doesn't need vram though.

A factory overclock combined with a "at home" overclock can drive a 570 near to a 580. It's a great value card and I highly recommend even considering the lower VRAM.
