More contrast. - Page 4

As was said earlier, there is a darker theme being worked on, but it's fairly low priority right now. There were more than a handful of us that pushed for a theme easier on the eyes contrast-wise during the beta, and what we have now IS much better than what initially existed when we could first access it.

Things like this take time, so please be patient. There are quite enough bugs to keep the Huddler team busy until then. smile.gif

Edit; also, I said at least a few times before that if you guys couldn't wait for a new theme to redo it locally from and for your system, you're just now doing it? tongue.gif

Awesome smile.gif

I'll go ahead and put this in my brain for future reference when people complain about the skin being too bright.

I complained about it when I first got the invite to the test, but back then it was so unusable that I simply gave up and went back to the regular layout.

Would you guys mind if I made a thread on this, for people to post their userstyles? There is a ton of attributes to tweak, and all of this tweaking is eating into my Skyrim time biggrin.gif

Just by downloading that style you posted my eyes feel like they are in a lounge chair at the beach on some tropical island with the sound of waves gently crashing into the fine warm sand.

Yep, my eyes can hear.

I'm going to assume 1) you all enjoy the dark theming of everything, 2) you have your monitors calibrated for gaming, and 3) you don't spend much time around other sites on the internet. One a calibrated (read: correct brightness and contrast) monitor, the site is very balanced and darker than many of the other top sites. I'm not saying OCN is better but it surely isn't any worse than most sites. Most people set their brightness WAY too high on their monitors which causes large white areas to appear extremely 'glow-y'.

I just went through all my bookmarks (which include things like wellsfargo.com, newegg, facebook, etc.) and I have found most vB forums have dark skins as default. Perhaps that is why is feels so different on OCN? All the other pages have the same if not more white space than OCN...

It really isn't that bad and while I understand you don't like it as much, it surely isn't 'abnormally' bright.

Well I do have a 24 inch plate of electrically powered back light sitting just feet from my face on full brightness because I can't stand dingy whites. smile.gif

So yes, yes I do enjoy a nice dark theme; It prevents my eyes from melting.

if most people have their monitors too bright, then why not make OCN darker, try to please the majority.....

I'm not going to turn down the brightness on my monitors just for one site....because then everything else will look dark

What did admin tell you guys? is there some incentive for not agreeing that it is too bright or something? It seems every staff member is totally for this brightness.

Hmm, good question... it shouldn't be a problem but personally I'd wait for admin to wake from his (deserved) rest and see it.

Bright pages are fine. Its the poor contrast that's the problem.

Read this:

http://webdesignledger.com/tips/the-principle-of-contrast-in-web-design

I have no problem reading other sites. Tom's hardware uses a bright skin for their forum, and its a lot more readable than OCN's, because it uses clearly defined borders and high contrast text, unlike OCN which uses mediun grey text on light grey backgrounds. Simply dropping the brightness (HSB value) of the forum descriptions from 57% to 30% resulted in a huge leap in readability.
