Let me put that on my list. "How are read threads differentiated between unread threads?" I knew this answer but sleep has not been my friend lately. I think it's time to call it a night very shortly. So if I don't respond to a reply tonight, it's nothing personal. smile.gif

Aha! After 10 minutes in google image search!
Here's what I was talking about admin,

Edit: I think read threads are already differentiated between unread threads smile.gif

That slow load/ poor rendering? was confirmed by lots of people. I just happen to have a easy to eye ball activity monitor open all the time. I can see cpu usage spiking every time I scroll down the page. I've not see a forum this heavy before.
BTW Harmony Central is one of the largest forum based site on the web, If you didn't talk them, you obviously didn't talk to enough people.
the shazam tags I remember dearly. Thats back when they were pushing this as a mostly css solution back in 2008 or so. It sucked then to.

You started off well :)

Just to confirm, all I see at their site (in terms of a forum) is a pretty much stock VB4 site (I don't mean that disparagingly! again, I have nothing against VB) . We don't want a content-heavy / non-forum-centric homepage. So I am not interested in that part of it obviously.

We do know VB4. We have relationships with some of the largest sites running it and have had some great perspective. Please don't take for granted the background of the team here (directly and indirectly). I mean that humbly and only say it based on some of your comments alluding to the opposite.

Yeah, they have nearly 300,000 users and likely 5 times the traffic you do. I think that should be a fairly sound indication, that not only did they try this/this type forum software, that they went back to VB, that this forum software isn't particularly good.If you don't wanna take my word for it. email Craig Anderton and ask him about his adventure. I wish I could remember the name of the company that sold him on this platform, but the shazam tag's. I remember those from looking over the code trying to figure out why Harmony Central went from a nice snappy forum that worked really well, to a big bloated mess of failure that EVERYONE hated. you'll notice, they don't use this forum software.

But hey its your site, do whatever floats your boat.

I commend you on your passion. I commend him on the size of their community. I respect both of your opinions and beliefs.

That being said, your reply is missing my point and my comments posted previously. Discussing moves like this with almost a dozen community owners larger than the numbers we are talking about here, I feel that is great perspective. Better than a sample size of one. I am always happy to make more contacts - so thank you for suggesting we get in touch!

Thanks so much for your passion and support. It means a lot to us and me personally.

Look at that, tell me there isn't a problem.

They have one of the largest forums on the planet, I think there feedback is worth more then most.

Ok - you got me :) I will go over it one last time.

#1. I have said three times now, we are looking into it :) Not sure what else I can say. We are aware of the thread. Not sure if I am typing in white each time I write this part as it seems to get missed.

#2. So size = knowledge. Perfect :) As mentioned, we have discussed this with almost a dozen other communities larger than that. So by that logic, we are in pretty amazing shape. Again, would be happy to chat with him anytime.

Thanks again for your interest in the topic. Moving forward, I do have to defer to my previous responses (or the #1 and #2 above) for the points you have already raised as I can't articulate them any better at this point.

The problem is that your new software, will ALWAYS have this performance penalty, bet they left that out of the briefings though. Like I siad, I heard all the same stuff, last time.

Things like

We were assured with cacheing performance would improve
Update to a newer browser, newer browsers offer better performance
Here are the 10-20 media sites we have "mind you most of them were open ended support ticket forums for large companies that had ZERO user community"
We are a top notch company with a portable platform to grow with
Javascript has no performance penalty
CSS has no performance penalty

I could rattle off another of the hundred thing I heard then, that I am hearing out of you and your team now. Heard it before.

should I continue ? Been there/seen it/did it/got the T-shirt

but like I said, whatever floats your boat.

don't forget, well they just have to tweak the performance.

Hint, it never showed up. After 2 months they went back to vbulletin.
