So if my pump fails... then what? - Page 2

post #11 of 13
This happened to me recently, pump died, I run linux so no monitoring software. Computer shut down after thermal shutdown occured at 101C. Turned it on, shut down before it could boot, took the cover off, discovered lots of hot air near the block, hooked up the pump to a power supply that complained and showed a short.

Some pumps have rpm monitors (like my new pumps) so you can hook it up to a fan controller to monitor rpm's or to your cpu pwm header on the motherboard. If on the motherboard the bios will complain on boot if there's no rpm's. Like werds I've moved to two pumps in series. Yes if one fails there's some restriction, but it's better than nothing.

That is a built-in feature of my Exos. Once time it sucked air and it did indeed turn off. It patches into the pushbutton on the front of the computer.

If your system doesn't have a "brain", look at the "Core Temp" utility for Windows. It has an alarm feature. The BIOS might have something like that built-in, too.

I use Real Temp with a simple batch file to shut the system down if either the CPU or Graphics cards exceed a certain temp.

It contains just this - %windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t: 0

I've also set up a couple of simple batch files to flash a warning message on screen if either one of my pumps stops running.

@ECHO OFF
CLS
ECHO. PUMP 1 (or 2) Has STOPPED
Pause
