My laptop gets hot!! - Page 3

Good news! After cleaning out my laptop and downloading a manual fan speed controller and setting the fans to 100%, I ran Skyrim for 15 minutes and ran around messing around. I alt tabed and checked Afterburner and it showed 79-80 on average, 82 being the max!

Wow, so now is overclocking safe given that I only overclock it while playing Skyrim? Thanks guys biggrin.gif

Not sure why on earth you bought yourself a Mac when you're obviously interested in gaming, that's your first mistake.
I would never ever overclock a MacBook, but that's just me.

I knew I had to answer this eventually wink.gif

I got this as a graduation present from my mother. It wasn't my choice to end up with this laptop, but if I returned it and got something else, I would feel really guilty. My mom got me this for schoolwork, so I'm gonna have to make-do with this when I'm gaming until I get home and play on my rig.

Just because it doesn't game well doesn't mean I shouldn't game on it, bummer how things turned out but oh well rolleyes.gif

Crap!!! So I've been monitoring my temps again and they're creeping back up to 88-89C now.. I'm not sure what I did but I have to find away to keep them down for good!
Unfortunately, its a Mac. Over prices for what you get... and highly over prices. Overclocking it wont do you good with temps. Are you trying to overclock to go to a higher setting? If so... drop it down and set it back to oem settings. Burning something out from it will be very expensive...since its a mac.

Here's another question. I can't turn off input remapper (change my fan speeds back to automatic) unless I restart my computer. Will it hurt my laptop if I have the fans on full blast for long periods of time?

If I were you I'd just reset the Mac back to default settings. Having the fans run for full won't really damage it; the temps are more of a concern. So if I were you I just wouldn't bother overclocking it since the small performance gain isn't worth the increased temperatures and the additional wear and tear.

Take to your senses before the entire machine goes bad.

I remember having my 8600m overclocked to 760+ core.. In order to achieve 700+ i needed to move the hard rive to the 2nd bay. Also keep windows 7 retail disc in the dvd drive.
