Skyrim Crashing After Launch

Thread Starter
I just installed Skyrim on Steam. When I launch the game I will see the Bethesda logo with the music, then I see the Skyrim logo which is part of (I think) the main menu. But I never now because right then the game will crash to my desktop.

Any ideas?

Reinstalling now to see if it makes a difference.

Reduce the quality of your Sound settings via your playback devices, properties etc... default the format at 24 bit/ 48k hz. Set Skyrim in vista SP2 compatibility mode, and you're done! Enjoy! biggrin.gif

Wow, didn't know audio settings would kill a game, +Rep

Yeah, I thought that too, but I noticed it in game when I turned up/down the volume. It started to stutter and/or crash, and there's 600-700mb worth of music minus the dialogue, so maybe the large amount of data could have caused some form of... I don't know... confusion?

I spent about an hour wondering what the hell was up with the game! Hope it stops it anyhow! It's not permanent though, I still crash occasionally! Just about once every 2 hours, so save often!
