Looking to build a new pc at the start of 2011

So as the title states im looking to make a new pc i havent built one in 4-5 years now. a bit back in terms of hardware.

With that in mind Im looking for a pretty decent gaming computer.

List of things I know i want for sure.

Budget is set to 1200

i5-2500k
z68 mobo.(msi or gigbyte)
G.skill sniper ram(8gigs)

I am at a loss here on video cards I am willing to spend 450-500 on one just dont know what one to get. I see all these nvidia 580's superclocked and they have different letters and mgs ranging from 15xx mgs and 30xx megs not looking for single gpu that is going to last me for quiet a bit of time. Any help would be great.

thanks for the help,
-Stile

i would go with the 2600k. if the choice is between msi and gigabyte i would have a look at the ud5
ram wise i'd rather get the rigjaws or the corsair vengeance

video card has a lot to do with preference. what are you looking to do with it? multimedia, gaming, folding, mining, video editing, rendering....?

Hmmm. Do you have a little patience?

I'd see what early next year brings us with Intel's CPU's and AMD's GPU's. 2cents.gif

I would stay with the 2500k for just gaming no need to get a 2600k. No games benefit from the hyperthreading. Graphics wise if you want a single strong gpu go for a amd card to save money like a 6950. and you can easily expect the prices on amd's 6000 series to drop soon since 7000 series should be coming out sometime in January

Haha , Yeah I'am.. should be 2012. oh typos ;D

The pc is going to be for gaming and multimedia. maybe that will help clear up the issue for me to look into what video card I should be looking into.

Also still a bit eh about video cards clearly the amd hd 6970 is cheaper then then the gtx 580 and the amd preforms just a tad bit under it being bigger longer and running cooler. for about 100 dollars more the gtx is a bit smaller needs more power runs hotter. I think ill look into the amd 6970. hopefully with the new 7000 series coming out i wont be wasting a ton of money and can just upgrade in a year.
