Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 no DirectX 11?

Hello guys, I need a little help here. I'm going to buy a medium budget gaming rig. I'm not going to be a hardcore gamer but just want to play big games like Battlefield 3 and others cause my current laptop sucks.

So I've decided to buy the Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 motherboard but then I see that it doesn't support DirectX 11. It only support DirectX 10.1. When I look at the recommended requirements for Battlefield 3, it says it need s a DirectX 11. Is directX 11 important in gaming? Will I lose some cool visuals?

Here is a list of the PC components that I wanna buy:
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE processor
MSI HAWK H5770 Graphics Card
4GB RAM
1TB HDD

Asus is saying that the graphics chip on the motherboard also known as onboard graphics only supports DX10.1 but the graphics card you brought 5770 fully supports DX11 so you are all good. The onboard graphics will be disabled when you use the card. It is handy to have a back up graphics on the motherboard if you ever have problems with you card you can fall back on it and have a working system while you get a new card.

Here is a link to a thread talking about what DX11 brings to graphics dx11-vs-dx10-vs-dx-9-pics

Thank you! smile.gif

Now I understand.. If the graphics card has a directx11, then having an older version of directx on the motherboard won't be a problem.

No problem m8 just disable the onboard GPU (DX 10.1) in the BIOS and install the new card (DX 11) BAM! your away. I have a "relative" of this MoBo the setting (if you are running the latest BIOS) is in AI Tweaker set it to Disable OnBoardGPU

Thanx.
