Q8400 speed/multiplier problems, please assist

Hi everyone..

I am currently saving up for an upgrade to my current PC, but for the time being i've looked at my current rig to see if some OC'ing can be done to tide me over the Xmas season. Well, I found something that made me sad instead frown.gif.

Rig:
Dual Core Q8400 @ 2.66Ghz
Asus P5B deluxe
2Gb TeamGroup Extreem (4-4-4-10 @ 2.2V) - This isn't working optimally either, but that's a different story.
Asus HD 4870 1Gb
Win 7 Professional 32-Bit
Gigabyte Odin 585w PSU

I looked up CPU in BIOS (v1238 for my Mobo), the multiplier is set to 8 and the clock reads 2.66Ghz.
When I run CPUID (older version, will test the lastet when I get home tonight) I get the following:

446

I watched it for a few moments and it will jump up to 2.66Ghz and x8 on the multiplier then immediately come back down again :/

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for any assistance.

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that the reason your previous thread was deleted was because we're having a few teething issues with the new platform. For some reason, it was automatically flagged as spam. We're currently working on the filter to try to get as few false positives as possible.

If you post something and then see that it is deleted, PM a moderator (such as myself in any of the Intel sections) and request that we validate the post. If the appropriate moderator is not online and you would like swift action, send a PM to a senior mod as they're not constrained to sections.

Since you have this new thread, I'm going to leave the other deleted as the content seems to be the same. If you need anything else, please feel free to shoot me a PM.

I find your info very confusing, why do you call it a core duo, and why do you have one piece of info that says Q8400 and another that says Q9450...

That's the problem. Let me clarify, it is a Quad-Core Q8400 @2.66Hhz.
Purchased a few months ago.
The screenshot was taken a few days ago.
I have no idea why it says Q9450 or why in BIOS i'm set to x8 CPU multiplier and in Win7 it's set to x6...
Seriously, this looks like an actual screw up to me and I would really like to fix it frown.gif

@[V]Paris: I want to get my system to what you have basically and sit it out till I can get the P8Z68-V Pro/GEN3 and i5 2500K, then sit it out a little longer till Ivy Bridge is at a decent price point. I would love to OC my Q8400 to 3.5Ghz (getting a Thermaltake Frio for the Q8400/i5 2500K), bump the ram to 4gb, switch to x64 Win7 and get a GTX 560 Ti... None of this can happen with my rig being in its current state.

EDIT: PM'd xxbassplayerxx for assistance.

Well what does your bios say when the system boots up? Is it possible it's just a glitch with that particular program?

Got the latest CPUID, no more mis-representation.
I'm going to try fix these problems myself.
