Upgrade 1215n or get a Transformer Prime?

Thread Starter
So I got my 1215n for about $500 when it came out last year and I have been somewhat satisfied with it. My issues are that the ION GPU is really finicky on when it will activate making gaming on this almost non existent. My other issue is that over the course of the year it has gone from being able to handle 720p video to lagging on 360p sometimes after flash updates. Do you think that doing a complete wipe/upgrading the ram would fix be the best option or should sell it and then go buy a transformer prime? (Also think it would be smart to install say ubuntu?) My primary purpose for it would be school and internet browsing.

I was using a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 as a laptop replacement for a few months and had no issues with it. Didn't miss my laptop at all, specially if you invest in a slim bluetooth keyboard.

With that said, I have since sold my tablet because I wasn't using it outside of taking notes, watching youtube, browsing the web, and the occasional netflix streaming. If you can get a decent price for your 1215n, I say try out the Prime, or look to see if any of the dual core tablets drop in price.

Sorry, but an Android tablet for schoolwork? Not sure why you would even consider that when you can get a normal laptop for the same price, which will definitely be better in every possible way.

Keep the 1215n.

Invest in an SSD.

Reload windows.

Enjoy your "new" laptop

I also have a 1215N that I got from TigerDirect Canada, before this I had the original Transformer and Dock. I'm going to sell the 1215n and get a Transformer Prime + Dock for 599. thumb.gif

I also have a 1215n and I upgraded the RAM but did not see a substantial difference due to the peice of **** CPU. I would suggest buying the Transformer but unless you get Windows 8 on it I dont see it as a viable laptop replacement.

LOL. I guess Windows really does suck on the Atom from how bad everyone talks about it. I don't remember it being so bad but I switched to Linux after the first 3 months so I guess I don't remember. But this is just another sad case of windows not being the best choice for hardware all the time. I'm very curious how they plan to make windows work well on an ARM CPU since they didn't bother trying to make things easier on the Atom.

I can do just about all my work on the transformer with a good office suite like quick office pro. It depends on your major though. It is only an issue if you need specialty applications i.e. photoshop, CAD etc. If you just need it for making documents it's not an issue.

If it was your only computer then yes get a windows laptop but if you already have a desktop to accomplish any tasks that required windows then an android tablet with a good dock like the transformer is great.
