Yeah, this is a issue with the game it seems, or ATI's drivers. Hopefully the new performance drivers will fix it/a game update.

Really sucks how much this is dragging on. I installed 11.11 full of hope, with the new CAP, but it's made it a LOT WORSE. I then thought I would try and uninstall the CAP to see if it would revert back, and it bluescreened my PC on the uninstaller. Very weird, and very annoying.

All of a sudden it became playable again, and I did a good few hours with no problem. I got one of those all too common CTDs, and it's back to how it was, around 20FPS, and stuttering like a badass. All of that was running with crossfire turned off. Just going to try both cards and the fix from the OP to see if I can get it playable again now.

EDIT: Ok, well there goes that. COMPLETELY unplayable, I get under 10 FPS using the fix and both cards. Awesome.

Maybe I am missing something but I got mine running fine on 11.11 with 11.11 profile with eyefinity. Average 50fps.

Here's a vid of it:

I loaded up a Backup image of my Win7 install, after a fresh install, and was eager to get back into Skyrim. All I installed were the SB Driver package (which, basically installed nothing on this Socket FM1 board lol) and the Cat 11.6.. or 11.9 drivers I had within reach, I'll check which specifically when I go on the desktop PC in a bit.

Anyways, point is, I didn't install any CAPs, and Skyrim runs great. I even tweaked the INI a bit more to improve shadows and I have a feeling the FPS are better than they were before. I'm also still not using any DLL files since the "fix" caused a BSOD not long after loading my save.

I think some of you should stop trying the more/newer approach, and give the "less" approach a try. Which reminds me! Sometimes when I notice something running really crappy, but the CPU load isn't very high, I'll drop the affinity a few cores to keep the system from trying to overly multithread it beyond it'd native support. Seemed like dropping it down to 2 cores smoothed the game play out slightly.

Some people don't wish to backup just to play a game which should be supported on launch though.

Some fixes work for people, other's don't. Some it's awesome, some it's terrible. Sorry it's so unplayable, I can only say let's wait until AMD/ATI gets their act together.

Don't get me wrong, thanks for the help smile.gif I just think I broke it more by tryign to fix it, lol. Now when I play it, it's playable for a time, then it's slow as hell, and then something clicks, and it'll stick to the frame limiter again. It goes liek that, wave after wave.

I understand. My skyrim is pretty much unplayable, but I'm a helping person, and will continue to support this thread because while it may not have helped me, it's helped others.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before in this thread but disabling the games AF and forcing it through CCC instead improves performance. With the game AF set to 16x I get some horrible stuttering with it disabled and running through the drivers I get no stuttering.

OK I'll clear that up as there seemed to be a misinterpretation of what I meant redface.gif

I did NOT mean people should reinstall Windows (or load a backup). I only mentioned that to explain the context of why I didn't have CAPs installed, and older drivers.

What I DID mean is that people should maybe try to use no ATi .dlls in the Skyrim folder, and perhaps uninstall the CAPs entirely since they are a small package. Changing the affinity to 2 cores was just an after-thought, and not part of my original suggestion to people.

So my suggestions that have helped for me, that are easy for others to try:
- REMOVE any ATi .dll file from the Skyrim folder (atimgpu.dll[?] and the "fix" in this thread)
- In ATi Tray Tools, under the Tweaks->Advanced Tweaks->Advanced CrossFireX-> put a checkmark in MVPUForceZSyncEnable
- Try older drivers as a last resort.

On a side note: Something DID happen after I reloaded Win7 (likely due to registry change) and my FPS cap is at 60 instead of 120 :\ Not really important, considering, but just a bit odd. I'll have to edit all my "Video" string driver entries to my usual settings and see if that fixes it.

new drivers out 11.11a, yet no crossfire support.
DOWNLOAD HERE

CatalystCreator Andrew D
"Catalyst 11.11a performance driver is now available: t.co/YMEqvrEP"

CatalystCreator Andrew D
"Please note that Skyrim CF can't be resolved through a CAP update - needs a driver fix - trying to get this resolved ASAP"

Realease notes on Skyrim with 11.11a driver:

Skyrim
o " Improves performance 2-7% on single GPU configurations

o Resolve corruption seen when enabling Multi-Sample Anti-Aliasing on the AMD Radeon HD 6970 Series

o Disables CrossFireX (to resolve negative scaling and image quality issues seen when CrossFireX is enabled)

§ AMD is continuing to work on a CrossFireX solution for Skyrim – as soon as it’s ready we’ll make it publicly available"

also, finally RAGE crossfire support!! for the Rage fans
