Realease notes on Skyrim with 11.11a driver:
Skyrim
o " Improves performance 2-7% on single GPU configurations
o Resolve corruption seen when enabling Multi-Sample Anti-Aliasing on the AMD Radeon HD 6970 Series
o Disables CrossFireX (to resolve negative scaling and image quality issues seen when CrossFireX is enabled)
§ AMD is continuing to work on a CrossFireX solution for Skyrim – as soon as it’s ready we’ll make it publicly available"
also, finally RAGE crossfire support!! for the Rage fans

Sadly they say Skyrim crossfire can't be resolved through a CAP. This worries me.

I'm honestly not surprised, if it could be fixed with a CAP then it would have one fix for all. Since it doesn't there is something much deeper in the drivers that we can't change as consumers that must be causing it. I am actually willing to forgive ATI for the delay if there are deeper driver issues with crossfire and it's not just a profile problem.

As an added note, Skyrim 1.2 patch is now out. I just got it from steam. Will hopefully solve the CTD issues.

It's just an EXE update, and doesn't even change the version number of the TESV.exe. Still 1.1.21.0, but interestingly it is not "cracked" anymore.
0-Day 1.1.21.0 Patch TESV.exe = 18,676KB
- Could launch the game directly from this EXE, with Skyrim folder anywhere you wanted (did not need to be in Steam/steamapps/Common/)
- Did not need to run the launcher, or have Steam running (including Steam Service)

11-22-2011 "Skyrim v1.2" TESV.exe = 19,050KB
- EXE "Details" tab still shows version as 1.1.21.0
- Running the EXE directly will force Steam to launch, and then it executes SkyrimLauncher
- No longer will run w/o Steam
- No longer can the Skyrim directory be anywhere you want
- No release notes at time of writing

Verdict: I backed up my original EXE (actually, the whole folder), and will continue to run 0-Day EXE until I see releases notes stating change.

I also found out I'm using Cat 11.4, but I am using the "Fix" dll redface.gif Oh well. I know it works fine for me either way heh

A little update of what I tried so far. I'm running CrossfireX with 2x HD5850. I'm using the ultra settings in 1080p, the only thing that's a little lower is AA (2x instead of 8x, which I usually find plenty):
  • The alternative .dll increases performance in crossfire by quite a lot (something like 80%). However, with the .dll fix it still performs quite a bit worse than with crossfire simply disabled
  • The new drivers and CAP (11.11) made performance much, much worse (especially without combining it with other fixes). What it did for me is introduce a insane lag in the load screens and in the in game menu. If I alt+tab out of the game (or ctrl+alt+del) and get back in the load screens are skipped quickly. Besides loading, performance is much of the same I guess, so not really worth installing these drivers (I use 11.8 in all the other tests here). If anyone else has experienced / found a fix for the load screen stuttering, let me know! I have not tried 11.11a yet, but I won't either because it simply disables crossfire for Skyrim (I can do that myself)
  • Having no .dll at all did not solve anything
  • Now for some better results, checking MVPUForceZSyncEnable in the ATi tray tools increased performance by about 7 FPS at some spots. However, this is definitely not always the case, and I encountered some minor stuttering (the game hanging too long in 1 frame, then continuing) a couple of times.
  • The Bioshock RadeonPro AA profile increases performance quite significantly. However, FPS lowered after a little while in the game after which doing an alt+tab out of the game and then back in makes FPS rise again.
  • What still gives me the best performance, is the RadeonPro Oblivion AA profile I proposed in an earlier post. This increases performance very significantly (just like the bioshock profile) and at the same time it appears to be a very stable fix.
  • Doing all of the above performance increasing fixes at the same time made things terribly worse
  • Doing a combination of the Oblivion AA profile and the MVPUForceZSyncEnable probably gives me the best performance so far.
  • No crossfire at all is actually quite good as well.

Basically, the RadeonPro Oblivion AA profile is performing the best, and the MVPUForceZSyncEnable fix can be a nice addition to this. However, turning off crossfire is still quite a good fix as well. Oblivion AA profile v.s. no crossfire: no crossfire gives more stable FPS's (avg around 55 FPS). In towns (Whiterun), performance was better with no crossfire at all (still around 50-55 FPS). However, the Oblivion AA profile gives better performance everywhere except in some towns; 60 FPS everywhere, but in towns (Whiterun) it can go down to about 40-45 FPS (only in the worst places). So, for me it's a tradeoff. I chose to run crossfire anyway with the Oblivion profile, and deal with the slight FPS drops in towns. It gives me very smooth performance (60 FPS) almost everywhere, so its my personal fix of choice thumb.gif

Keep in mind that all of this holds for my specific situation. It might hold for you too (which I hope it does, because then this will be useful to you), but it could not mean anything in your situation.

With 11.11a the driver stop CFX and i get 60fps 90% of the time. This also Maxed out @ 2560x1440. This game is very easy to run.

has anyone tried to add the line “iPresentinterval=0” to the Skyrim.ini file? I believe it uncaps the 60fps limit if im not mistaken.

Nothing to do with performance but i've found that changing the field of view with the FOV console command makes the game much better, especially in 3rd person mode as your character no longer blocks half the screen when close up.

I'm an idiot. Can you give me detailed instructions on how to do this? What amount you did as well?

Open console with the tilde key (~), then type fov ## (## = value) - eg. fov 90. Typing fov with no value seems to set it at 75. Increasing field of view demands more from your system (probably why console games set it so low) - worth keeping in mind for anyone already having problems. It's also only temporary, so you'll have to set it every time you start up Skyrim, and using the console apparently stops you getting online achievements, so if this is a problem, it may be better changing fov with the ini.

A Google brought up this, which seems worth a read -

http://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments/m7nhh/how_do_i_change_the_field_of_vision/

Performance-wise, using the .dll with Oblivion AA profile, i'm getting a fairly constant 60fps with increased fov.

I forced the bioshock profile in Radeon pro and turned off v-sync. WOW What I a difference, the game is playable now. I was getting 20 fps, now I am getting in upwards of 200. Still dips down to 30-40 sometimes.
