I do think that the url he links to is broken. It ends with ".aspx.aspx"

My attempt at "fixing" it doesn't work yet either smile.gif Guru3D supposedly has it up but people are saying that file is borked.

Will update when we get a working link! thumb.gif

Edit : Actually, I'll post the 3D Guru link, but there's reports of image corruption so it's a at-your-own-risk.

I already posted this in the BF3 thread, but I feel like this needs to be exposed to everyone:

Stay AWAY from 11.11b. (Tested on a single 5970 on stock clocks.)

For starters no improvements over 11.11a in BF3 none whatsoever. The horrid stutter had return, still not fixed. (Although 11.9 CAP 4 fixes this)

Now onto Skyrim......
11.11a no cap fixes. Game runs fine off one GPU, lowest dip is 40 in towns. (That has to be some kind of glitch on Bethesda's end)

tesv20111123010249030.png

11.11b Installed.... Holy Sh** it's terrible. Clouds, water, and various other textures flickering....
But that's not only it.... It runs WORSE than 11.11 (No surprise here):

tesv20111126025409835.png

And to think I believed AMD would fix this... frown.gif

Here's hoping 11.12 will address this issue.

Oi, oooooi...what is with them? Hell, don't support crossfire, but at least don't TELL us you're going to fix it if you're, well, not. This is getting kinda tiring.

I'm not usually one to regret my purchases, but sometimes I can't help thinking the grass is greener on the other side. tongue.gif

11.11b works fine with my crossfire setup. Running on 2x6970 Ultra Settings @60 FPS solid, crossfire enabled with Radeon Pro settings:

Anti-Aliasing Filter: CFAA
Anti-Aliasing Mode: Supersample
Tessellation Control: AMD Optimized

I did not do any changes to the game or its config. I did also not run a 4GB Patch.

Without those settings I experience also the same graphic bugs as mentioned above.

Here is two Screenshots:

Time for a 11.11b report!

Good news and bad news.

EDIT: Forgot to say that I'm using two 5850s, slightly overclocked, on a 2600K.

First the good news:
- 11.11b works as well as the dll fix, in other words, as well as running the game in Oblivion profile.
- The "2-7%" speed increase is also there in crossfire.

Now the bad news:
- I'm seeing intermittent but severe graphical corruption on loading screens. Haven't seen it elsewhere, but who knows.

Don't bother getting 11.11b until they fix the graphical glitches.

Now let me talk about something else. Skyrim is 100% bottlenecked by CPU on high end systems such as ours which use crossfire. I examined per-thread CPU usage of TESV.exe and found a single thread that bottlenecks the whole game. It takes up a full core no matter what I do. This is most obvious in Markarth where the framerate is extremely low no matter what kind of graphics card you have.

I had two things to try to get better performance:
- Overclock my cpu. I got it to 4.0Ghz from 3.4. Roughly a 15% increase.
- Turn down settings which most contribute to the bottlenecking thread. The only one I found so far which has severe impact on framerate is shadows.

By overclocking my cpu and turning off shadows I got these results:
- Markarth: 25 -> 47 fps. GPU usage went from 33 to 46%.
- Outside of Riverwood: 82 -> 105 fps. GPU usage went from 83 to 90%.
- High up on a mountain peak: 117 -> 130. GPU usage remained at 99%.

I guess the good news is that many settings which improve visual quality are "free" for us as long as they don't contribute significantly to the CPU usage.
While the game can run great on lower end systems, it's obvious that Bethesda did not spend time to optimize the game for high end systems.

tl;dr Turning off shadows increases performance by up to 50%.

11.11b crossfire framerate still terrible compared to single gpu (HD5770) when settings on ultra but with settings on high I'm getting an extra 10fps vs single card. Weirdness.
