that's happened to me once so far a few hours in.

That's happened to me about 5 times, but I've racked up 21 hours of play time (yikes) so it's not too bad.

I have CFX disabled on my two 6950s, but the card I'm using is unlocked and overclocks past 1000 core so it's more than playable on ultra.

Another thing I must mention - EVERY time I start the game I HAVE to tab out and in again. This probably just about doubles framerate and relieves any mouse lag.

edit: using 11.10 and cap4

DLL fix made it worse for me, 6850 xfire. What does work for me strangly enough is to alt tab out of the game and then alt tab back in. It does take 2 alt tabs to get back into the game but once i do the frame rates improve alot. Sadly I have to do this everytime I change locations or I notice a huge drop in FPS. But I can run ultra at 1920x1200 (or soemthing like that, can't remember the exact width) with min frame rates around 40 fps.

I use fraps and AMD hardware monitor to stay ontop of my FPS and GPU usage. If I start to drop below 80% gpu usage and my FPS starts to suffer I know its time to do the alt tab trick yet again.

Hopefully AMD and the game developers can get some patches out this week.
Good Bye AMD

I disabled Xfire on my 6950 (unlocked to 6970), set everything to Ultra (except Shadows which are High) and at 2560x1440 I still get 60fps pretty much (50fps in Whiterun with everyone around me)

I will give a quote from hardocp:
" The Bottom Line
While we have not finished this game yet, and cannot comment on other areas of this game, we do have some striking initial impressions. Our initial impression is that this game runs better on, and has a better gameplay experience with, the GeForce GTX 580 and GeForce GTX 580 SLI. We had no mouse lag, smooth performance, faster performance, no bugs in sight as of yet. We were also able to use SLI thanks to NVIDIA releasing a Beta driver one day before Skyrim launched with full SLI support in the game.
We have harped over this before, but this game shows once again that AMD's driver support is biting it in the butt on a new game release. With not even an ETA on a new CAP for Skyrim to support CrossFireX, and no performance driver in sight, it is rather depressing for AMD GPU owners. We keep seeing this with new game launches these past few months. Rage, Deus Ex: Missing Link, even Battlefield 3 had better and working performance and SLI drivers from NVIDIA on game day launch, while AMD support was lacking.
With CrossFireX and SLI being based on profile support AMD cannot afford to lag this far behind on new game launches. NVIDIA simply has more support out of the gate for SLI in new games it seems. Gamers don't like to wait. When a new big title like this is released and unlocked at a certain time on a certain date, gamers are lined up waiting to play it right then and there. It matters that performance and Dual-GPU acceleration is supported when the game launches, and not days after.
First impressions are everything, and with this game, first impressions tell us that GTX 580 gameplay experience is just better. We look forward to testing Skyrim more and finding out how performance and mainstream video cards compare as well as an in-depth look at image quality. Hopefully with some new AMD drivers as well. Stay tuned."

I stress firmly that AMD needs to and will release new drivers shortly.

Could they suck Nvidias wang any more? I'm certainly not in denial of AMD's issues, far from it, but that just stinks of "buy Nvidias GTX 580 for the definitive experience!" I wonder how much they got paid?Too much PR for my liking. rolleyes.gif

Ok I tried the Bioshock AA profile and it worked. There was slightly less performance gain than using the Crysis CrossFire profile (by 3-4 FPS, not much but just stating my personal findings).

I found using the Crysis Crossfire profile gave me almost the same performance increase as changing the exe name (only 1 FPS lower) while not suffering from microstutter that the Oblivion profile seems to cause.

Renaming the .exe fix : Locate the Skyrim.exe in your Steamapps/common/Skyrim folder, and rename it to Fallout3.exe. This can cause a large performance boost.

This definitely works. I found this one on the Bethesda forums over the weekend. Of the three methods I have mentioned in this post this is definitely the best performance increase. It also doesn't require another program running in the background.

Using the .dll raised my frames a lot. At first I couldn't get above 30fps on high settings and now I don't go below 40fps. I'm currently running 2x5870's and a 955 OC'd to 3.8ghz. Once i'm off work i'll try renaming my .exe and see if I get any performance improvement from that.

I've tried almost all the fixes suggested on the site and still no dice. I get 50-60 FPS out of towns with crossfire enabled and radeon pro shows both cards at 40-50% but in towns like solitude il get 25-30 FPS with 50-60 gpu usage. I disable crossfire and reenter the game and I get 45+ in towns and it's stable.
Dont even get me started on eyefinity that definitly will not work on any setting with crossfire enabled. I can run BF3 on med with 60+ FPS on 64 player maps in eyefinity I should be able to destroy a console game such as skyrim.

Are you attempting to run it on ultra? I know with FXAA on and AA maxed out I get 10-15 fps. These temp. fixes allowed me to move from med-low settings to high with great fps but I wouldn't expect to see anything more until an actual fix is released.
