No I didnt read the first post, i just replied to a thread randomly. rolleyes.gif

I was simply asking whether any of those fixes are a good substitute for the CAP. You said I'll get the best performance by waiting. Thats all I wanted to know, without the smartass remarks about whether I read the first post or not.

I had the same exact issue on my sig rig and it was resolved by installing the .dll mentioned in the OP. I would try installing that (assuming you haven't already) and see if that helps. I no longer have to alt-tab every time I go inside/outside and my fps remains stable throughout. Hope this helps.

OK I hadn't noticed that my dirt2.exe suggestion broke AA (was too caught up in testing and enamored by the 120FPS lol), so Fallout3.exe it is! redface.gif

THAT being said... Removing atiumdag.dlll fix and the atimgpud.dll seems to work nicely (that's right, no DLL). That might just be me, or because I'm using Cat 11.9 still, not sure.

But, what I did find that should work for ALL of you guys/gals is this: Using ATi Tray Tools, in the Tweaks->Advanced Tweaks->Advanced CrossFire section, put a checkmark in the MVPUForceZSyncEnable box and hit Apply.
(Note: If you are just installing ATi Tray Tools for the first time, it likely will put you in the Advanced D3D Tweaks section, and you'll have to scroll UP in the dropdown as it'll be off the list.).

It only helps in certain in conditions(?) though, for example that bumped me up from 66FPS to 72FPS (Winterun, by your house, looking towards the mountains). In the same spot, but facing the other direction it is 61FPS with or without that setting forced. (looking towards the middle of town, at the top of the wall between the houses). Unfortunately Skyrim doesn't have a benchmark mode so I can't say what the average gain by this is across a bunch of different settings, but we take what we can get right? biggrin.gif

Seems the using of the Console to keep things from changing isn't the best way to compare. While my 66 to 72 change was before I tried that, the other test which didn't show a difference may have if I the console wasn't open. I tried another area and WITHOUT using ForceZSync I get around 30-34FPS, WITH it they increased to 30-42FPS. That's a gain of 8FPS there, which is more than you get in some games by overclocking wink.gif

This is while using an A8-3850 @ 3.56GHz, DDR3 @ 2224MHz and dual stock 5770s running Skyrim at 1680x1050, 16xAA and 16x HQ AF thumb.gif So not exactly the most high end config.

My sig rig was getting about 15~20 fps before the fix. Just downloaded the .dll file and now I'm running at 50~60 fps thumb.gif

Under Catalyst A.I, the only options that I have (with my current settings listed in parentheses) are: Disable Catalyst A.I (enabled/standard), Mipmap Detail Level (High Quality), Wait for vertical refresh (Always On), Adaptive Anti-Aliasing (Enabled/Quality), and OpenGL Settings (Triple Buffering). If anyone knows if any of these options could be changed to get rid of the fire issue I would be very grateful. Thanks again for the advice.

Try disabling Catalyst A.I. It is using FP16 degradation or something that is causing the issues.

Don't worry. 'CatalystCreator' is working on a Skyrim CAP and definitely aims to get it released as soon as possible.

From past experience, that will be 'soon' in geological terms.

Thanks very much for the tip. Disabling Catalyst A.I. did fix the black square fire issue but it also disabled Crossfire so I'm not sure the trade off is worth it as my fps were considerably lower. If anyone has a method of fixing the black square fire issue while maintaining Crossfire, I would be sincerely grateful. Thanks again for the help.
