Skyrim Crossfire issues? Complete list of known fix's here! 12.1 Prev OUT!

Thread Starter
This, like my Battlefield 3 thread is set to be one standard thread instead of multiples. I will continue to update this thread as necessary.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND : The 4gb enabler is OBSOLETE, BETHESDA HAS OFFICIALLY INTRODUCED 4GB SUPPORT!

**PLEASE TRY THE TESV Acceleration Layer Here. Skyrim has some of the most pathetic CPU optimization to date, and this should GREATLY boost performance.

Tested configurations by me personally and their outcomes.

11.9 + CAP 3 = Bad
11.10 Rev 3 + CAP 3 = Bad
11.10 Rev 3 = Bad
11.10 Rev 3 + CAP 2 = Bad
11.10 Rev 3 + CAP 4 = Bad
11.10 Official Release + CAP 4 Official Release = Bad

11.11 Official Release + 11.11 CAP 1 = Bad
11.11 Official Release + 11.11 CAP2 = Bad

11.11b + CAP = Semi-broken performance, enabled Crossfire, better scaling but still unacceptable.
12.1 + any caps = Untested

Current download links/Fixes

DOWNLOAD 12.1 Prev HERE!

DOWNLOAD 11.11C HERE!

11.11b drivers are for 6000 SERIES ONLY. NOT 4000, 5000, OR ANY OTHERS, 6000 SERIES -ONLY-

These 11.11b may cause screen corruption in Skyrim for some users. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

DOWNLOAD 11.11b HERE

11.11 A DRIVERS NOW OUT! DOWNLOAD HERE

CAP 11.11 1 AND 11.11 DRIVERS NOW OUT! http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx#1

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ICEDIU66 Official link for the atiumdag.dll, download this and place it in your Skyrim folder, this helped performance for me! TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!! IT WORKS FINE FOR ME BUT MAY NOT FOR YOU!

Vsync : For now, the most important tweak has to do with the fact that VSync is automatically on and can't be disabled from within the game. This not only reduces FPS, it also introduces mouse lag. To disable VSync in Skyrim, add iPresentInterval=0 to the bottom of the [Display] section of the Skyrim.ini file in the \Users\[Username]\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim directory.

Radeon Pro fix : Download Radeon pro from the following link ; http://www.radeonpro.info/en-US/. Once you've downloaded Radeon pro, create a new profile. Locate the Skyrim.exe and select it, after that, maneuver your way to the Tweaks tab and force the Bishock Anti-aliasing profile. This should increase your crossfire performance ten fold.

Renaming the .exe fix : Locate the Skyrim.exe in your Steamapps/common/Skyrim folder, and rename it to Fallout3.exe. This can cause a large performance boost.

ATI/Nvidia .DLL file fix : The age old Bethesda fix on release, a .dll file, Skyrim is no different and the nexus has supplied us with said DLL at the following link ; http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=123

NEWS SECTION.

Quote:
Official 4GB support has been enabled!

ATI IS aware of the issue..

TWEAK SECTION

Still having bad performance? Want to squeeze extra juice out of your system? Please try the following methods to possibly increase FPS, or lower vram usage.

Tweak one; Let's focus on setting up the compatibility for the .exe

1. Right click on your TESV exe on your desktop, and click properties

2. Click the "Compatibility" tab, make sure these boxes are checked, Disable Visual Themes, Disable Desktop Composition, and Run this programs as an administrator

3. Click OK, and launch the .exe, your windows theme should turn into basic. This can result in roughly 200mb free.

----

Tweak two; Once you've done that, we can work on the pagefile.

Click your windows start button and pull up control panel.

Once you have the control panel up we're going to want to go to System and Security, and from there System. On the left side of the system tab you should have "Control Panel Home" with 4 options. Device Manager, Remote Settings, System Protection, Advanced System Settings.

Click on Advanced System Settings. This should pull up a system properties box, if not already there, make sure you're on the Advanced tab, and under Performance, click settings. Click the advanced tab and "Change..." on virtual memory.

Once here, it should tell you at the bottom the minimum, recommended, and currently allocated virtual memory. Click the "Custom size" bullet, and in the Initial Size, and Maximum size enter the Recommended page file size, and click set, and then OK.

Your PC may ask you to restart, be sure to restart and try it out and report back.

----
Tweak 3; I also recommend disabling ULPS via Regedit.

To do so follow these steps

1. Open the Regedit program, this can be done by using the start button search function

2. Once you have regedit opened, click edit, and then "Find"

3. Type Enableulps in the search bar

4. Double click enableulps and change the 1 to a 0, hit F3 to find all instances of enableulps, don't bother with enableulps_na

5. Exit regedit and restart

----
The SERIOUSLY BRO I'M WILLING TO TRY ANYTHING! section.

Tweak one; Start a new power-cycle on your PC by completely shutting it down, and shutting off / unplugging your PSU. Restart the PC and [Possibly] enjoy your CF scaling as it should be!

----
HELPFUL PROGRAMS AND DOWNLOAD LINKS
also known as the ;
Dude, got any helpful programs/I'm not a wizard, give me something easy! Regedit what? ULPS? Speak english! section.

Program 1; ATIMan is a helpful program for removing left-over registry entries and programs after MANUALLY uninstalling CAPs/Drivers. It's similar to Driversweeper only made for ATI.
Download and install ATIMan Uninstaller V.6 from the following link; http://www.mediafire.com/?76yfas13pwcnhq6

Program 2; ULPS Config Utility by OCN user Kiwiasian! ULPS Configuration Utilty
A standalone, DOS-based utility with a user interface for both enabling ULPS and disabling ULPS. For those who are too lazy to find the registry key or don't want to mess around with the registry.

This utility automatically changes the value of the EnableUlps value in your registry to either enable or disable ULPS.

In addition, you can back up and restore your ULPS registry key as a portable .reg file.

*Does not require installation*

You can get it directly here; http://www.sendspace.com/file/q2uovb

But please drop by his forum post and show him some love! http://www.overclock.net/amd-ati/108...e-disable.html

FAQ

Q. "I have a 6990, or two 6990's, why is my scaling SO BAD?!"

A. Simply put, I don't know. This is something on ATI's side.

Q. "ATIMan is coming up as a virus, OMG H4XXOR TRYING TO GIVE ME VIRUS?!"

A. ATIMan shows up as a FALSE POSITIVE. It is NOT a virus but I won't be held responsible if it turns your PC into Skynet and starts WWIII, or for any other damages.

Q. "I don't like ATIMan/Heard bad things, what else can I use?"

A. Try Driversweeper, but make sure you find a legitimate download link as it's no longer supported, once again, this is at your own risk. If your PC comes alive and begins making buttered toast, not my problem.

Q. "Why is it after trying these I STILL get bad performance?"

A. This can lead to MANY, MANY answers. Bad CPU overclock? Bad PSU? Simply put, there's SO many configurations I can't narrow everything down. I try my best, but a lot of people here chime in to help, just ask around.

Q. "ULPS? What is this wizardry, and why should I set it to 0?"

A. ULPS saves power by disabling the second card when not in use, but this can cause issues especially if you like to overclock.

Q. "How did you get to be so amazing, attractive, and smart?"

A. Eat your greens, children.

Thanks to tweakguides for some of the references, and the Vsync paragraph.

My performance is really bad, however when I alt -tab to windows and go back, my performance is great! Just too bad that you have to do this almost everytime when I go to weapons or when the level is changing

Edit: I replaced the dll + put vsync off. Now performance is awesome all the time! Thanks!

Do you just put the dll in the skyrim folder? Nothing more? I see you said you replaced something with it, didn't seem like it did that for me.

Sorry where did I say that? :s I didn't have to replace anything, and if I did say that I was obviously a bit off my rocker. This method though doesn't seem to be working for everyone.

The dll made no difference for me as the game only use 40% of my cpu and gpu regardless of settings, which is a bit silly! Still get good fps though in some of the towns it drops off when you would expect the gpu load to increase. Hopefully some drivers/game update will fix it.

Well I have been playing Skyrim a little the past couple days and it runs well but not as smooth as I wanted. I figured it could be my setup so I decided to look for some tips or updates and came across this thread. I have 2 MSI Twin Frozr III HAWK Edition cards OC to 1000MHz (930 stock) and memory to 1150 (1050stock).

I set the resolution to 1080p, clicked the ultra button, check the FXAA box and the object detail fade box. Playing the game net me an average of 28-30fps from a fresh download.

I applied your disable vsync fix and got an average of about 30-32 fps.

I then dropped you dll in the \Users\[Username]\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim folder. To my dismay it was still 30-32fps. I rebooted and tried again but net the same result. I searched for skyrim on my computer thinking maybe there is another folder. I found one and moved the dll to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim instead.

Fired the game up and on average I was getting about 44-50fps with it not dropping below 34fps and jumping as high as 80.

Awesome find/fix. thumb.gif

Edit: I tried your fix for right clicking the exe on the desktop but windows said it is a "Web document" shortcut and points to steam://rungameid/72850
I looked in program files again and the exe you will want to do this to is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\SkyrimLauncher.exe

Test showed while my lows appeared to be less common i still had the same lowest and high points but appears to keep the average speed up a little more.

Edit 2: I forgot to mention I am using the 11.10 WHQL 64bit catalyst driver. WITHOUT CAPS, I never installed it.
