Skyrim Crossfire issues? Complete list of known fix's here! 12.1 Prev OUT! - Page 3

Hello, I have done a good amount of testing to get Skyrim working with crossfire and eyefinity. I have a Phenom2x4 with 6850x2 crossfire, not currently overclocked because of interaction between newer CCCs and Trixx.

Skyrim "works" with crossfire for me. I get the same performance with the 11.10 and 11.11(cap1) drivers. There are the following issues for me:

* Lower than expected framerate. This is fixed by Ctrl-Alt-Del and then "cancel". On ultra at 1920x1080, framerate goes from 30-45 to 45-55/60. It is very playable and looks good, although I periodically have to do this trick to restore fps, usually after changing locale, entering building etc.

*Even with 45-60fps on ultra, Radeon Pro reports GPU utilization from 50-70%. The game runs almost as well with a single GPU, so the scaling is bad but not negligible. However, given that I am getting 45-60fps on ultra, the experience wont improve that much even with better scaling. The game is not that demanding with a 1920x1080 resolution.

*Note: The game locks up and becomes unplayable with shadows on Ultra. I had to lower this to high, and then game improved 1000%.

I tried the .dll and it had no impact on performance. Also, running RadeonPro with various profiles, including the Oblivion profile, had no effect beyond just starting from the launcher without loading a cap.

However, getting eyefinity and crossfire to work is another story entirely! To make a long story short, no combination of options/profiles overcame the horrible stuttering and hangs. With 5760x1080 (3xlandscape reso.) the reported framerate is 20-25, but effectively plays at 1-3fps.

The way I was able to get eyefinity to work, was not only disabling crossfire from CCC, but I had to physically remove the unused card. Now I can run high/ultra detail and get ~35fps with 5760x1080. Working well and following the tweaks on widescreengamingforum.com to get the menus to scale properly.

My opinion on the game is that the graphics are not that demanding. Unless you are crossfiring lower end cards like 5770s,or attempting a higher resolution, you probably have enough power to not bother with crossfire.

My interest lies in getting crossfire to work with eyefinity and to overcome the need to hit ctrl-alt-del every few minutes. I am going to try all the hints in this thread, and report back. Hopefully amd will release a driver soon, but give 11.11 was released today, I'm not expecting anything for a few weeks.

Try removing the atimgpud.dll for the new dll to work (don't delete it just move it to your desktop).

Yeah, I'd avoid it until we get a new "official' link.

Looks like megaupload is down... any alternative links for atiumdag.dll? I'm having serious issues with my single 6870

Hey Ghost,

This is my first time posting on one of your threads, but let me say I appreciate everything you do to get us running the latest and greatest.
Your threads follow the same, easy to read format every time and I'm very pleased with the support that we SHOULD be getting from AMD. Shame on them.

Anyway,
Disabling the Vsync helped my FPS by 3-4. I can't download the ati .dll from megaupload (google chrome cannot find www.megaupload.com) so I'll have one of my friends download it and send it me and follow you up on it.

I'm unsure if I should use radeonpro; I'm running 2x Reference HD6950's like you (mine are unlocked) and wanted to know if it really helped that much.

I also started having this problem (before any of your fixes, that's why I cam here) where my whole screen starts flickering and shuttering like crazy (unplayable). It comes randomly about every 20 mins and lasts about 2-5 mins and I have no option but to wait it out cause it just stops as quick as it started. I don't get it in BF3 so I'm guessing it's drivers. I played over 10 hours of this game without problems and this just started happening yesterday :S.
EDIT: Disabled crossfire and the flickering is gone and my FPS is like 10x better. Go figure, AMD.
EDIT2: Running 11.11b now and it is AWESOME! AMD's release notes clearly state it's aimed only at HD6xxxx series, so don't complain if it doesn't increase performance on your 5770's, please! I'm unsure if the ATI .dll you linked at megaupload made any difference though.
EDIT3: Flickers and Shutters persist, only fix is to disable CFX or wait them out. frown.gif

Anyway, much appreciated! Hopefully my findings are of use.
-AND hopefully AMD gets their crap together so you can relax and enjoy the game instead of worrying about us!

Thanks so much for the kind words man. Glad this thread helps people a lot! And I'm glad it seems you've fixed your issues. The .dll seems to help some, but not others.. welcome to the world of ATI/AMD tongue.gif

I've not had as much time to update these threads as usual, but others in the community have kept them alive which makes me happy. It's funny, I can't even play Skyrim myself, it just won't work on my set up, but I still keep this up to help people! thumb.gif

Some info about my system first, to get that out of the way:

Intel I7-920, Windows7 64-bit, Single VisionTek Radeon HD 4890-OC video card (for now).

ATI/AMD Drivers version 11-9, no CAP.

I've been playing skyrim for a while now on my system, and I've had to play it with AA disabled if i wanted everything on ultra @ 1920x1080, as the game would run at 10-15 FPS with AA on even 2x or 4x, even with AF disabled, outdoors.

Without AA on, I've been playing on Ultra and outdoors has been 30-40's FPS, at least it's playable, and I've been dealing with that all this time, thinking my video card was just older and not able to run skyrim on ultra very well.

With your ini tweak to disable V-Sync + DLL my FPS outdoors is now 50's, sometimes 60's, some areas it's 70's even.. !!!!!! and much smoother overall, no more random drops to teen's FPS when loading new terrain walking around outdoors, smooth 50+ most of the time now, rarely ever 40's or below any more.

Also I thought I'd help support your tweak guide and thread here, and I've mirrored your DLL over on my little linux web-server in my closet. It's running on Verizon Fios residential, but 50/20, and It's not utilized to the max too often. Link is here: it's just your own file you posted on Megaupload, I saw that one post in this thread about how Megaupload was down at one point, so figured I'd offer an alternative, it's not a big file anyway. feel free to grab it and compare to your own, nothing malicious here, I'm just trying to help.
