using 12.1 with HD4890 (2 in crossfire) and skyrim is rather unstable and CTD at random, making it nearly unplayable sometimes (crashes every time i fast travel to windhelm). Disabling crossfire is no better, however it seems fine if i physically remove one of the 4890's and just run with 1 card, and with no AA and single 4890 it runs like 60-70 FPS.

Although after playing for about an hour I get corrupted / missing / black textures around the world.. go into a building and 50% of the walls are missing and looks like I can see out into the distance through what should be a wall. Annoying... I may go back to 11.11 with no crossfire just to play skyrim, or give up on it. I've already completed most of the game.

I believe this is due to 4k series being pretty much unsupported.

Sorry for my lack of support! I've been SWAMPED! Thread has been updated w/ new links, old news has been cleaned up and I changed the title! 12.1 links and TESV Acceleration layer links are included!

For those who find that their performance increases after ALT-TABing... try this Simple Borderless Window mod as an alternative:

I will have to try the acceleration layer when I get home. I will also try out the 12.1 drivers as well since 11.12 don't seem that great in Saints Row The Third.

Now to search for a blocky shadow fix.

Actually no, they're included in the new drivers and still benefit from any tweaks in the drivers, even though the drivers claim to "improve crossfire performance in for 6xxx series" etc, it still boosts 4xxx series even though they don't say it does.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with having two slightly older 4890's today, other than the lack of DX11 support, but there's few if any games that use it anyway, and it's certainly not a absolute-requirement to play any games yet (they all run on dx10 or 9 compatibility modes). And two 4890's in crossfire out-perform a single 6770 or 6850 in most games on the same settings. On top of that you can score 2 4890's used on eBay for $100 - $120 shipped, if you look around and are patient. I bought two recently for $113 shipped on auction, selling one of em soon though since 3-way crossfire doesn't work very well.

Anyway, I found out my crashing problem was because I was running RadeonPro. Disabled that and it works great with no crashing now. I played Skyrim earlier for 6 hours with 12xAA on (Edge Detect), 16xAF, and AMD CrossFireX enabled with 12.1 drivers, average FPS was 35 - 50's, but that's very playable in Skyrim, and looks pretty.

Edit: the other thing the 4xxx series don't do is eyefinity, which doesn't always work well anyway, and the adapters for the monitors cost as much as the damn video cards do... so not for everyone, and not for me, so I like what i have.

Right now i can only get crossfire to work on one 6990. I really hope they get this sorted sometime this century to use both my cards. @ 2560x1600 maxed out it could use the extra ooomph. Especially once I start messin with the gfx mods offered.

the 6990 is two cards in crossfire, FYI, they're just on the same card. So you're already in crossfire, even if the CCC doesn't say it's enabled. 2 of them would be 4-way CrossFireX, and with my tests with 3 4890's, more than 2 cards with crossfire doesn't always work that well.

i know that mang. im only able to use one 6990 with 2 gpu's in crossfire. there is no good reason why after a month and a half this still hasnt been resolved for crossfireX. these are their current flagship cards it all I was sayin. you'd be peeved too. tongue.gif
