Thread Starter
So i recently got a XFX 6950 and it is one of the older reference card. I was able to unlock it to 6970 settings but it artifacts.
Is there anyway of getting rid of them? or am i just stuck at this point?

If you are getting instability after just the shader unlock try upping your voltage to the stock 6970 levels and see if that helps

You could try increasing core voltage?

Also did you use the 6950 unlock bios, or a 6970 bios? As the 6970,s memory runs tighter timings...

I believe I used the 6970 bios with 6970 clock/memory speed along with the unlocked shaders. Not sure how much voltage is okay and safe.

Stock 6970 voltage is 1.175V. I would not go above 1.25V or you may damage your card. Once you have increased the voltage the unlocked card should stabilize, however keep in mind that it may need a little more than stock 6970 voltage as the card may have been locked because it was a poor bin.

in order to run a unlocked 6950 you need to run 1.2v to run at 6970 clocks. so 1.25v is just for people who don't want to push there cards. i have mine at 1.28v and 980/1525 and it's health as an ox as i can say. but only thing that could hurt me is the load temps which is the only thing that will hurt your card really. you can put 1.35v in your card and it will run fine if you have good to excellent cooling on the card. you can put as many volts as you want as long as you stay under 68-70c limit and you will be fine

my problem right now is trying to change the voltages. it seems like me that msi afterburner voltage tweaks isn't really changing the voltages. any suggestions?

what do you mean not changing the voltage.
when you set the voltage to 1.2v do you hit apply or do you just leave it hot it is after you change it.

here is my gpuz screan

well I did do that. I changed the voltages in MSI afterburner but gpu-z doesn't show voltages (or maybe I'm missing it). Its still artifacting. In HWmonitor however its showing upat .9v - 1.17v
