Again thanks for the input guys, starting from scratch again is a @#$%.

Absolutely; your CPU is more than enough for BF3 - just get a GPU.

Ehh....you're completely wrong. Multiplayer on 64-player servers takes a massive hit on the CPU. A dual core gets 60FPS in Singleplayer, and, at most, 25 in multiplayer. My phenom II @ 3.6ghz dips down to 35fps at 1280*1024. You pretty much need an overclocked 2500k to get a consistent 60+ FPS.

New gpu it is mate. DO you think the gtx 580 is the right choice? will my 830 be able to not block it up and anything cheaper that could pull its weight with modern games?

EDIT: its also worth saying i run a Resolution of 1600 x 900 so a little easer on my GPU in games.

Get a GTX 570 or equivalent and you're good to go. I have an overclocked gtx 570 running in my rig and my fps never dips below 40 while gaming on 1080p at ultra

You can go with a GTX 580, but you'll regret it, it'll be severely bottlenecked by your Phenom.

Given the cost difference (when looking at the small FPS improvement at 1680x1050), the GTX 570 is a much better buy.

Here we go again...

Why don't you two post up some benchmarks that show an x4 to completely fall on its face during multiplayer?

I can't, I'd need to get my 965 BE build assembled again and I cba to do it for ignorants like you, my 965 BE build was getting less than 40 FPS on high, I had to lower it to low-medium to get it on 60 FPS.
My new 2500k build gets over 100 FPS (textures ultra and most stuff on high) and it never goes below 80.
