8 gigs of ram enough?

i have 8 gb's of ram, I am considering buying 4 extra gigs of ram from a different maker to add to it so i'll have 12 gbs total. is this a good plan?

What are you using the computer for? If its for every day use, you're adding useless ram smile.gif I'd recommend opening task manager and watching your memory usage, I rarely come close to the 4GB mark - unless your doing some heavy work loads (i.e. large photoshop files, video editing, etc) I would doubt you'll even use the 8GB that you have.

Just my 2 cents smile.gif

usually its ok, but gotta make sure the timings are the same iirc

i have different pairs of ram, if you dont set them on a speed and timing they both support they crash sometimes. So setting a sweet spot for both worked for me

Just make sure the timings and the voltage are the same as the existing kit. Are we talking about your sig rig? if so make sure you are taking advantage of that triple channel memory.

Now, I don't think It's likely you NEED to have more than 8 gigs, but I don't know your usage pattern.
