Winter Fox 2.0

Thread Starter
First post on here. Figured I'd share some photos of my computer and recent build.

Sold the first "Winter Fox" to someone... who completely trashed it. Not sure what he spilled in it, but either way the only thing I think I could salvage was the GPUS and the hard drives.

Current parts in there are the new FX 4100 cpu. I considered getting the 6 core or 8 core, but tbh, bad benchmarks or not, I'm going to be playing SWTOR, I don't need a killer system.

For the motherboard, I picked up a ASRock Fatality 990FX. I've read pretty good reviews on it, it's not the best, but I'm in the military so I'm kinda on a budget. From the benchmarks I've seen, it holds its own, plus it goes well with my GPUS.

The GPUS are Sapphire 6970s. Got them earlier this year, hopefully they will survive... (By the way, if they are fried, is there a chance of it doing at damage to my computer?)

On order I have the following.
Corsair HX850 PSU
2x4gb of G.Skill Sniper 1866 memory
300 GB 10,000rpm Raptor with the 6.0gbps (Does anyone know if 6 vs 3 makes any major difference?)
New DVD/CD drive (yawn)

I'm looking forward to contributing to the forums here, if anyone has any questions about my system once I get it built, feel free to message me.

Here's a photo of the current state of my build. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

The cards are pretty awesome.
I had a eyefinity setup before with 3x23" LG LED monitors. I had to get rid of them because when I was flying on Battlefield BC2, I was getting motion sick and had to take breaks every 20 minutes.

awesome build so far...love the color scheme.

"don't need a killer system" --> but you went with CF 6970s and 990FX board rolleyes.gif

Only thing I might worry about is bottlenecking with your FX4100, should be okie...but only time will tell. Try to OC it as much as possible. I would of just grab the 955 BE. Its around same price, but its unlocked and can OC better than the FX4100

I got the system up and running last night.
Didn't need a bios update, memory ran at 1866 and the timings were as advertised.
Bumped the multiplier up to 20, increased the voltage just a bit in the bios and off I went.
Haven't had any issues yet, downloading BF3 right now with my awesome internet (maxing out at around 650kb), so I'll post my results possibly tomorrow.

Previously I had an AMD 965 that was running 4.1ghz, haven't noticed too much of a difference yet.
In regards to the bottlenecking, I didn't bottleneck with one 6970, and still saw a significant increase in fps with 2, especially while running eyefinity when I initially purchased the cards.
I'd go Intel, but I'm a big fan of AMD. Quality product at good prices.

I'll post some benchmarks once I get everything tweaked and the benching software downloaded.
Thanks for the reply.

Soo... you were right. Time did tell, and it wasn't good. Skyrim was choking pretty bad on Ultra settings and I know the graphics cards aren't the issue. I'll continue to tweak it and see how it does.
