Gigabyte ud5 am3
965 and it bsods all the time when oc.
All I did was voltage and multi though

never set ram timings, nor OC more than 4 GHz.

I would like to play video games better.
Mostly GTAIV and FONV (with a hundred and seven mods)

The former is cpu intensive and the latter is single threaded intensive.

I was thinking BD.
Disable 3 moduals and OC to 7 GHz (dual core mode. They can go up to 8 GHz correct?)
PCSX 2 and FONV

Enable all moduals
and OC with better ram

GTAIV and other games.

GPU 470 with 810 core stock memory.
(I didn't need the extra heat because mem overclock doesn't do anything does it?)
If anything seems silly I am a milk pasteurizer in alaska.
How good with computers could I be?

Also I am a 3d vision FANATIC.
Best thing to ever happen to video games. Well worth the moo-law
So everything I play is 1/2 the fps of what you play.

Ergo you could deal with a 26fps FONV
I could not because it would be a 13 fps wasteland, and not the good kind.

I have h50.
I heard BD is hot like fermi.
What cooler if I need another one?

And it has to be considerabally cheaper than 2500k-ing my setup.
So the cooler + cpu can't be more than 1/2 the price of going to the dark side.

Bulldozer only works on AM3+ motherboards...

The best thing you can do then, is sell it and upgrade to an SB-E or get a Phenom II x6...

I heard it did.
With a bios update.
So my 790fxta-ud5 is not compatible?

buying an 8core to disable 6 of them is a bit ridiculous. no matter what Ghz it gets to it isn't going to be as good as a 5Ghz 8 core.

If anything you want to unlock to receive MORE cores not less lol.

I bet it's your RAM that caused BSOD when overclocking try overclocking again post all your settings etc then we can help.

I don't think you need a cpu upgrade till ivy bridge or next AMD forget bulldozer your chip is fine for gaming.

1090T would be your best bet, I loved mine before I upgraded to 2500k - that was an expensive move that didn't help gaming at all.

Sorry, but games don't use 8 cores yet. So for his purpose, he would be absolutely fine running two highly clocked cores over 8. Assuming the games only take use of 2 cores. tongue.gif

In a application that only uses 2 cores:

7GHz/2 cores > 5GHz/8 cores

I know that it still doesn't justify spending heaps of money on a super clocked dual core lol. He would be better off with a 2500K tongue.gif

Unfortunately he has an AMD rig, so he would also need a motherboard.. which would make it much more expensive.

But the 2500k goes only to 5GHz
I have seen bulldozer do 7.

Even though its clock for clock FONV is so single threaded intensive that I would have a performance boost.
It runs badly with more than a few mods, too much texture data for a 32bit exe (patched to 3GB)

PCSX is emulation software.
It doesn't have more than 2 threads (the third is for the GUI)
