From one to the other, budget? X58 to X79.

Thread Starter
At the moment I've got myself a 920, watercooled, in an E760, also watercooled as long as 6GB's of 1866G7D (watercooled again tongue.gif). My question is, if I sold all of this (parts and waterblocks) and went to (hopefully the lowest 6 core) X79, how much on top would I need? CPU + CPU Block + MoBo + RAM. Hopefully 8GB's, and board needs to be SLi minimum, Tri-SLi preferred.

I know it's mostly speculation at the moment, but what's the going rates A.K.A. how much on top after selling?

Thanks,

-f.

Expect $620 for the 3930k, another $300ish for a motherboard, under $130 for quad channel ram, and if the CPU block is priced the same as X58 under $100.

Not sure how much you can sell your parts for, would cost about half an x79 build to just buy a i7 970 and overclock it with your current water cooling setup.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking about doing.

Thanks, +REP.

Outdated, obsolete and overpriced now that the 3930K is being released

970 should be price cut to 399.99 now

I would also recommend getting a 970. They are beasts, they'll hold there own for a very long time.

Should be a few 970s hitting the market place after the new chips arrive. That'll be a good move to get one those chips.

I'm in no hurry to get rid of mine, pretty fast system already. Another to note is that x79 could have bugs in the first bit(few months maybe?)

I think those prices are underestimated a bit. They may apply to the US market, but in Australia the 3930K is looking to be around $700, and a decent motherboard will be at least 340ish.

One thing that hasn't been asked is why OP wants to upgrade?

Yep, I want to get a 970 but I can't find them anywhere at a decent price.
