Reaching tj max

Thread Starter
My apologies if I'm being an idiot but I am a noob when it comes to building my own rig. While messing about installing a new fan I unplugged the pump on my liquid cooling and forgot to reconnect thus my overclocked i500k reaching tj max and turning itself off can this cause permanent damage ?

Ha! Welcome to the unplugged pump club!

This happens to the best of us. Don't worry about it, most all modern CPUs have heat protection well below the actual point of damage or lifespan impact, including yours.

so if my i5 760 is running at 80c on a stock cooler while folding on SMP for days to gether, then that should not affect the life span of my cpu rite?

my voltages are stock too.

No. I meant heat protection as in shutting off when it gets too hot. Obviously it probably wouldn't be smart to let it run just below that shutoff point for an extended period of time.

If you hit 80 with no OC, you should re-seat your cooler.

80C is hotter than we'd like, but probably not so hot as cause undue degradation. I'd certainly be unhappy with that temp though.

reseated,i think one of my pins isnt providing enough support.

anyways the cores go to 65c max while playing bf3 and working on maya and video encoding.so until i get my hyper212+ this xmass,i will have to live with it :)

btw i reduced the vcore by 0.12.stablity checked.
