4-way SLI and PhysX

Thread Starter
HI,

I am new to Nvidia and 4-way SLI

I have used AMD and ATI ever since i started building PC's

But i've learned my lesson and now i will be going Intel and NVIDIA

I need to know somthing.

With 4-way SLI can i setup just 1 gpu for nothing but Physx and have the rest for rendering?

If you have four cards and you want one to just do PhysX, you'll want to do 3-way SLI and leave the fourth card unbridged thumb.gif

there's an option in the Nvidia control panel to select which GPU you want to run PhysX on.

SLI and PhysX are not going well together. I mean running PhysX "in" the SLI is bad.

In your case, your WAY better to run 3WAY + the other card as dedicated physX. But only if you run a PhysX game ... otherwise, run 4WAY.

Yes you can. Nvidia Control Panel can setup your GPU's as you see fit.

Okay yeah.....

The two posters above you said that i would have to leave the 4th card unbridged....

Thats a real hassle for when ever i want to play a game that uses PhysX.

There are many games that dont use physX and i would want to use all gpu's for rendering in that case.

Can anyone confirm weather i can connect all 4 gpu's with a 4-way SLI and just configure the GPU's the way i want?

You indeed can, buying would not recommend doing that. If you really want 4way, find a board that can supports fifth card and get a dedicated physx gpu. Running physx in your sli can hamper it's performance.

Just get the 4 way bridge and you should be fine. You won't have to physically move the bridge at all once it is connected to the four cards. You can change everything you need for physx and whatnot in the nv control panel.

If it will definitely hamper the GPU's performance to have all 4 in sli with PhysX, then i would definitely want a 5th card just for physX.

But i will also be using a SoundBlaster Xfi Fatality sound card so i will need at least 6 PCIE slots.

Can any of you tell me what the best Motherboard for socket 1155 is that has at least 6 PCIE slots? and will support 4-way sli?

Or better yet, is there a monster x79 board comming out that will suffice?

thanks
