so what are you doing some of these for? like whats the water difference? to help crashes? thanks for the link, changed my sound, that was the most useful one as i was getting that desktop crash

I can confirm the console-based "FOV ##" command works. To be safe, after that type "save ini" into the console. With this method my FOV stays at the value I set it, even after quitting and reloading. I'm not sure if the "save ini" command actually does anything, but in the end my FOV stays where I want it to be.

Howerver...

Save your game after changing the FOV, and delete/move all other saves. Also this causes a red tint on the loading screen, but so far I havent noticed any adverse effects in-game.

I've modified my ini to look like his mostly and the game looks really good now though I've taken a FPS hit as a result, but its worth it at this point

Adjust Grass Distance

To change grass distance change the following variable in the skyrimprefs.ini (My Documents > My Games > Skyrim > skyrimprefs.ini) under the [Grass] heading.

fGrassStartFadeDistance=7000.0000

to

fGrassStartFadeDistance=25000.0000

Ultra: fGrassStartFadeDistance=7000.0000


Ultra Grass Tweak: fGrassStartFadeDistance=25000.0000


As you can see the grass renders further out.

I have not noticed any visual difference pushing it past 25000. Using this method this is the farthest out you will see grass render. If you lower this variable the less grass you will see. Changing the other variables under Grass don't seem to make any difference.


Adjust Tree Distance

To change tree distance change the following variable in the skyrimprefs.ini (My Documents > My Games > Skyrim > skyrimprefs.ini) under the [TerrainManager] heading.

fTreeLoadDistance=75000.0000

to

fTreeLoadDistance=250000.0000

Ultra + Grass Tweak: fTreeLoadDistance=75000.0000


Ultra + Grass Tweak & Tree Tweak: fTreeLoadDistance=250000.0000


Trees generally render fairly far anyway but if you look just off right center on the peaks you can see the extra trees rendered on the mountains.

I haven't noticed any difference pushing it past 300000.0000 but this could be dependant on the area you are looking on. I saw no visual difference between 250000 and 300000 but you could put it at 300000 just to cater to a further visual distance.

Adjust Shadows

To change shadows change the following variable in the skyrimprefs.ini (My Documents > My Games > Skyrim > skyrimprefs.ini) under the [Display] heading

bTreesReceiveShadows=0
bDrawLandShadows=0

to

bTreesReceiveShadows=1
bDrawLandShadows=1
