Hi all,
I'm interested in this one.

Has anyone actually tested the assumption that expensive memory is better?
I ask because HiFi is riddled with snake oil talk, they pay hundreds of pounds for a bit of wire smile.gif

Can you quote any test?

Most expensive memory seems to have bits of metal stuck to them to give the appearance of a cooling device.
So is cooling the only advantage?
If so why not just have cheap memory and a darn good fan located near the chips?

By the way I have Corsair Dominator complete with three mini fans but I have never had any standard memory to compare it with; so I may have been spoofed as well.

If the CPU isn't being overclocked just get the cheapest most generic 1333mhz RAM you can find.

higher MHz ram is good for bench marking but if he is going to be gaming I would prefer tighter timings

If he's not benchmarking ram 24/7, or attempting sky high overclocks, just about any 1600Mhz, 1.5v ram wil be just fine for a gaming rig.

Sure, the faster ram might give you an extra FPS or two depending on the game, but throwing the extra at a better video card will give a much more beneficial performance boost for gaming.
