Sandy Bridge Celeron G530

Thread Starter
Well today I built a new pc and was on a very tight budget and wanted to get on the Socket 1155 platform. I ended up getting the Celeron G530 procesor and so far I am very pleased with it. I mean for $40 this thing walks circles around the old pentium D 930 cpu I was using in my old dell dimension E530.

I dont know how credible the windows experience index score is but with the pentium D is was getting a 4.6 and with this sandy bridge celeron I am getting a 6.3 Everything feels so much snappier and smooth. I cannot wait until january when I have the spare money and buy a I5 2500 cpu. I say for anyone who wants to build a new budget rig you really cant go wrong with this processor. I didnt really see anything about it anywhere online so I figured I would stop by here tonight and share my thoughts on it so far.

I barely spent any money building a new tower today using this cpu. It was $220 and some change for the following parts out the door with tax at my local microcenter
Intel Celeron G530 1155 cpu
Biostar H61mlb motherboard
2x2 gb ddr3 133mhz crucial ballistix ram
320 gb WD Blue sata hard drive
Lite On DVD burner
Cooler master elite 371 case
I had just purchased a new corsair cx430 watt power supply on hard forum from someone for $30 shipped, and bought windows7 home premium 64bit last week. So I mean realistically the price would of been $350 with the PSU and OS. Which is still cheap as hell fora complete tower with a OS.

Oh I forgot to mention this too, it's a damn shame I spent more on a 320gb hard drive then I did this processor. I wish I had a video card laying around to toss in here because I would do some gaming benchmarks to see how it really does. If all goes well by january I will have a hd6850 and a I5 2500. I will happily slap the video card in here with the celeron and run some benchmarks to see what kind of gaming performance I can get out of it before installing the I5 2500.

You'll not be disappointed with the 2500k, but Ivy Bridge is coming in March or April, and will be compatible with the same socket, from what I hear.

I'm really curious to see some gaming benchmarks from this just for the hell of it. Out of the entire sandy bridge line-up I would say this is the most impressive cpu in their line-up. Yes the 2500k and the other k models are fast, but for the price nothing stands close. I'm going to be using this chip in a file server and I'm excited to see how it performs.

I have a G530 in a Windows Home Server Box, but I haven't yet installed WHS. I'm hoping that it will sip less electricity than the Athlon 64 3200+ that it's replacing. I'm sure it will have all the horsepower I need for backups:D

Sorry cant believe I never posted back in here. The celeron G530 runs about as fast as a E7500 core 2 duo, for a $40 new cpu that is pretty damn impressive...

That's pretty sweet, considering the E7xxx and E8xxx were really high-end LGA775 CPUs not too long ago smile.gif

I came into this thread since I found this CPU was on sale down at a local retailer's and I thought, "hmm. Wonder if this could be a good stopgap until I can get an i5 2500K down the road?"

So, it's encouraging to hear it holds its own well. Have you tried overclocking and seeing how performance scales with OCing?

I think this Celeron is as good as the e8400 in many things,
as for OC... almost impossible, only some 5% with the bclk.
