New build question about cooling

Thread Starter
hello guys first ill post my setup (idk why my profile say something about active in forum or what not)

AMD phenom II x6 1100t

16gb (4x4gb) g.skill 1333mhz ddr3

Asus 990fx board 950sb amd

nvidia 460gtx 1gb ddr5

1000w continuous pc power and cooling psu

Rosewill Destroyer with 7 120mm fans(3 intake 1 fan at bottom to push hot air up and 3 exhaust fans)

I will probably run stock for the first week to get everything broken in and what not but my question is if i wanted to overclock to say 4.0ghz would that be enough to keep my cpu/board/gfx/ram cool enough or should i invest in at least a cpu water cool setup?

also, any tips or anyone with first hand expirence with this board/cpu combo about overclocking?

thanks in advance

A cooler such as a Corsair H100 or a Noctua NH-D14 would be enough for a 4GHz overclock. A watercooling setup using a XSPC RASA kit is also a great option, giving you the option to cool your 460 in the future whilst giving you great cooling performance.

In terms of overclocking your CPU has a unlocked multiplier so it is quite simple to overclock. Simply increase the multiplier, boot into windows and run a stress test such as prime 95 for at least 30 minutes, reboot into the BIOS and increase the multiplier again, stress test. Do this until you get to your desired speed then stress test for longer (i would say about 2-3 hours). If your pc fails to boot into windows while overclocking increase the CPU voltage then try again thumb.gif
