Why is the new OCN so taxing on CPU/RAM - Page 5

It is worth noting that right right-hand column of the site includes, outside of the forums, things like the buttons to add a new rig or the section to add a new product/review - hiding that entire element will hide those features by extension, and we can't guarantee you'll be able to make the most of the features.
Particularly in threads, the right column might not seem to useful right now - as the tag database builds and more content is tagged, you'll start to see that area fill with links to content that is related to the content you're looking at now. For example, say you're reading a thread about a Radeon 6990 - in the right column, you might see other threads where people talk about the 6990, any guides or FAQs related to it, member reviews of the hardware, etc. It is all designed to be smart and pull the different sections of the site together. The more tags we put onto content as a community, the better off that area will be sooner.

The quick solution, is to dump the huddler forums software and go back to vbulletin, then what huddler should do, is carefully study the VB code, to learn how to write forum software.

Then and only then will you get adequate performance. However, you can in the mean time keep all the huddler features on the website itself and just dump the forum software till they learn how to write some.they don't have a freaking clue as it sits, I am still not impressed.

Crooks

My main computer at home does not lack for horsepower and the site loads ridiculously slow - as in I can load 2 to 3 other webpage tabs that are streaming content and graphics heavy before most OCN threads complete loading.

It has all but kept me from mobile browsing (iphone 4) and I avoid browsing the site from work computers (ancient). My experience across the different hardware and different connection locations have all been what I could feel and visibly tell is a slowdown from the previous site. Hope it gets resolved because having to wait on every single thread to load for what feels an extended time period is quite the deterrent from regularly browsing the site frown.gif

PS - This running slow also accounts for the fact that I have turned off sigs, avatars and several other bits and pieces of the new forum just to improve the speed. Otherwise it would be even slower.

I seriously wonder what you're going to say six months from now Chipp when the complaints are exactly the same; "but, but...look at the features". You elected to go with Huddler for financial reasons (how nice of them to offer no upfront costs, huh?), but got something awfully bloated in return - it's wildly amusing that the "pursuit of performance" tagline is still being used.

Switching to vB4 and setting up additional server allocation would have offered an upgrade path from vB3 (which was EOL), while delivering the performance characteristics we'd become accustomed to. Of course, that costs money - and before anyone starts...not once did the administration here reach out to the community for support - instead electing to outsource to a company that data mines and shares ad profit.

Remember the old adage Chipp - "nothing in life is free."

Chrome does have a particularly good Javascript engine, and in general site performance has improved slightly in the time since this thread was created.

We currently have a group of updates working through QA tests that includes more performance tweaks, and will continue updating until the performance is absolutely as good as it can be (on par with other major websites that have this same level of functionality). Expect this first update round Thursday.

Yeah it totally kills my ability to browse the forums on my phone now, i mean I still do it but is SLOW and gets my phone hot lol (droid x- liberty 2.0 - dolphine browser HD- 3g connection good) , guess my productivity at work will be going up since I cant check the forums as much biggrin.gif

Seriously though, if I wireless tether to my laptop its fine so I think its just the amount of work my browser needs to do to display everything
