Flow and temperature sensors

Could anyone recommend some good inline flow and temperature sensors and a good monitoring interface.

I've been looking at the following:
  • Koolance 1/4" Thread Inline Flow Meter : INS-FM18
  • Koolance In-Line Coolant Temperature Sensor : SEN-AP005PB
  • Koolance TMS-205 Software Thermal Interface Controller : TMS-205

Also where would be the best place to install the sensors in the loop.

I'm using Aquaero 5 with both inline sensor and flow sensor also from Aqua Computer's, haven't updated my pics lately but it's looking bad a** if I say so... I tested the flow and temps, still trying to work out the other features but that's another story..

I have 2 loops so the temp sensors are installed before and right after the blocks.. highly recommend this, cool to see water temp right before and after the hot spots..

pump > rad 1 > rad 2 > rad 3 > flow meter > sensor > gpu blocks > sensor > res (0.8GPM dual D5 @ 3)


The other one is..

pump > sensor > aquaero waterblock > cpu > sensor > rad > flow meter > res (flow being tested still)

As for the flow sensors, well I was in a pickle with that, the meters are about about the size of a standard cpu block so I had to hide them and also keep tubing down to a minimum if possible.. be extra careful when using all this inline stuff... I counted 30+ barbs and clamps used biggrin.gif

I am using Bitspower Temperature Sensor.

It is installed in the res as shown in the pic below. Its 2-pin connector can be connected to any standard temp display.
I concur with frank anderson's suggestion that the best places to install temp sensor are 'before and after' a water block.

Unless you are specifically measuring before/after temperatures of something, it doesn't matter where you put the temperature sensor. For each loop of series components the flow is the same everywhere so it doesn't matter at all where you put the flow sensor.

I'm putting mine where the wires most easily reach the place where they are plugged in.

I'm using a Aquaero 5 to monitor them. So I bought the flow sensor that is the same brand. For the temperature sensor, I saw two models for sale that were M/F G¼, so I got the cheaper of the two.

I have pretty much the setup you noted above except that I have the last gen (TMS-200) which I think the only diff is that it used 50K Ohm sensors instead of the new 10K Ohm.

I only have one temp sensor for the coolant placed at the return to the res. It really depends on the loop config and what you want to monitor as to where you put multiple coolant sensors. Note that if you are using the TMS-205 you want SEN-AP008PB. I think that the one you noted above is the older model with the 50K Ohm sensor.

I have the INS-FM18 flow meter again placed in the tube segment returning to the res. As I understand it the flow rate should be constant throughout the loop but should there be any less flow rate near the farthest point from the pumps that is what I would want to monitor.

I am very happy with this setup. I also have the EB expansion board so I can manage dual pumps.

A few questions about water temp sensors, are all of them pretty much the same accuracy? Second question is the same as the first except for flow sensors accuracy? I have a Bitspower water temp sensor I haven't even put to use yet.

I'm using a Scythe 5.25" bay fan controller/temp sensor. It works well but I question it's precision and accuracy.

Flow meter. For something totally different I use what I call 'flow flags'. Simply o-rings cut in half and installed inside the tubing/fitting junction. They move and flutter as a simple indicator that the coolant is flowing. Hopefully you can see them in the pic. They are in the three lines coming from the manifold.
