old 160gb Raptor drive. Interested in RAID 0 but need advice

Thread Starter
I have had a old 3 or 4 year easily raptor drive and im been getting interested in raid sense i heard you can inscrease performance. the problem is that i want to do SSD but cant really justify the price for a 120gb and especially sense they are coming out with newer and faster ones every 6months. At least with HD it was stable and constint.

So the question is can i get the new raptor drive and do a Raid 0? Sense im new to RAID could i get a wd black 7,200rpm and put my old drive and the new drive in Raid 0? The use will be for gaming 90% 5% webrowsing 5% for anything else.

With Raid0 you will be limited to A. purchasing another 160GB HDD, or any HDD that is over 160GB will be limited to 160GB - the problem with buying another 160GB WD Raptor (especially now) is that prices are so tremendously high that you're going to end up paying more than for a SSD and its still going to be slower even in Raid0 - the advantage would be having more space.

I wouldn't go with another 7200rpm drive as that defeats the purpose of having a 10,000rpm drive (as you're only as fast as your weakest link) - I would suggest either A. selling your raptor, buying an SSD and storage drive, or keeping the raptor and just buying a storage drive.

^ which person you talking about? What i ment when i said raptor drive as do i nee dthe same year model to do the Raid 0 in or i can mismatch 160 10,000 rpm drives. Btw 160gb is more than enough storage for me sense ive had the drive i only once filled it up with games. What i was thinking of doing is buy 2 60gb SSD putting them in Raid 0 but that will be 200$ Usually on my sytstem it just the os and a game or two(usually current gen games). what sucks is that i want sata III and no the old Sata ssd :0(

He said the prices are tremendously high lol. As long as the speed and size is the same, youll be fine. You wouldnt see a different between SATA 1, 2 or 3 so dont dwell on that.
