Sure the 7000 series might be better, but we got no idea whether that is true or maybe we are in for another disappointment like Bulldozer. It is also gonna be more expensive. 5850 CFX will be able to rape nearly every game to the ground at this point of time.
Thats the reason why 5850 Xtremes when it came out recently are soo popular, cos 2 of those in CFX provide thrashing-GTX 580 results at a price of a 6950. Your PSU will be fine as well.

100dollars is around £65? cheapest I can find one is around £140, still think it's worth it?

Since when has a 6970 been close to a 5970 (5850s crossfired) in any bench that supports two or more GPUs? tongue.gif The 580 is the only single card to approach that performance level on it's own.

Twin 5850s scale exceptionally well. They are still very powerful cards even though they're nearly two generations old. No shame in crossfire by this point. Like when the 5870 hit the block and the 4870 users just snagged a second 4870 to best it. biggrin.gif No problem with that. I say go for it. I was a user of crossfire when the 4770 was released, I know a while back tongue.gif, and I never had one issue. If things are as they appear, then drivers are just as good now as they were back then. biggrin.gif

I ran crossfired 5850s for quite a while. My 580 was only a slight upgrade over them...heh, and power usage remained about the same. I just got tired of fighting with overclocking and non-eyefinity monitors so I got rid of them, but they had some horse power. They scaled at around 90% in most games.

650watt will be fine. I was only pulling about 530 watts from the wall with my sig rig plus the two 5850's and minus the 580. After you figure in about 80% PSU efficiency the system was only using about 400-430 watts. I'd just make sure your 12v rail or rails are strong enough and they likely will be.

i just switched from unlocked 6950 to two 5850s and performance is much better with two 5850's not sure your psu will last very long with either upgrade option though. As far as cpu bottle neck it will be there but I wouldnt sweat it
