Not that I know a lot about headphones, Senheisers are good! Have a look around for some of them. I would recommend over the ear cups though a lot more comfortable for hours.

I have both the JVC HA-RX900 and 700's. I prefer the 700's with a few modifications over the 900's because the 900's are a bit muddy with the bass. I took the ear pads off my 900's threw em on the 700's removed the felt off the driver, added a padding in the ear cups and put a foam mat insdie the driver housing and they sound amazinf for $35 bucks with a little work.

I've got a somewhat older set of cans, Sennheiser HD485s, I love these things. Very crip and clear, not muddy and overpowered bass, awesome for gaming and almost all genres of music. Not sure if you can find them anywhere, but if you can I think they're well worth it (paid like 50 bucks or so for 'em).

Grado SR60.

They are described by most as being pretty laid back in the bass department but performing admirably in all other respects. I've had my SR80s (bassier sounding than SR60s) for probably 8 years now and they are still going strong to this day. Very nice cans IMO.

Grado cans are semi-on-ear style rather than over-ear. IMO they are comfortable because they are very light weight and breath very well. The light weight means they can stay in place with less head-band tension. Many people complain about the on-ear pressure and comfort issues with gardo cans. Also, keep in mind that these are open back design, which probably has a lot to do with why they sound so good. This also means that they leak a fair bit of sound to the world around you. If this is a problem skip this suggestion.

Looks like they are now SR60i instead of SR60, though I'm not sure what the differences are since back when i was investigating a can purchase.

I just recently purchased a pair of RX900's, SR850's, and DT770's. In your price range I would go with the SR850's. They are $39.95 with free shipping on eBay. IMO they are more comfortable than the RX900's and the sound is a little more crisp/clear. Note that I am comparing the headphones before either are modded.

just something to look at just in case..

Wow, that is a terrible guide with none of the headphones that a normal Head-Fi person would recommend with the exception of the Westone.
