Man, I haven't said that! Of course BF3 works fine in a 32 bit OS! I'll say again: if you run it under a 64 bit OS (64 <> 32), BF3 (not the system, I mean BF3, the game, whose process will be named BF3.exe in the resource monitor) will never use more than 4Gb. I've never talked about total system memory usage.

You have to count how much Battlelog takes as well. Chrome/Firefox take about 500MB for Battlelog.

Exactly, you got it right.
What I mean is that BF3 (given that it is a 32 bit application) cannot consume 4gb of ram. The game, not the OS. In fact, as there will be some memory shared among other processes (like the C runtime or Direct3D code), it will typically be less than that.
The resource monitor (memory tab) is a nice way of displaying that information. I can post a sample C program for you that will allocate memory until there's none available for the process, and you'll see that it will be <4GB.
Which is why I want to make sure we are on the same page. BF3 is still a 32 bit application, not a 64bit application. So again, the mention of a 32 bit os discussion is for the most part moot. All the OP wanted to know is how much memory is BF3 using, not information about a 32bit os thumb.gif.

Yes, you do but if you are using 500mbs just for web browsing you are doing more then just playing BF3. I can have 5 tabs open and don't use that much memory for web browsing. You also have to take into consideration the addons being used as well. But even so, I still don't' use that much memory.

from 1.4 to 1.7 GB. 1.7 GB is usually on big maps with full 64 servers.
in SP use about 1.5 GB

You're being annoyingly oblivious. Noone mentioned anything about any 32bit OS. You did. The poster mentioned 32bit apps.

What that want to know is how much memory BF3 is using. Like I said in a later post, some people could use up to 2 gigs just at desktop. Problem is they are providing total system memory usage not BF3 memory usage. So it maybe they need 8, 12, and 16 gigs of ram because they are running up to and possibly exceeding 2 gigs just as desktop.
But it doesn't suggest that BF3 needs more then 4 gigs of ram because of it. What that means is that you need more then 4 gigs of ram because of all the stuff you want running in the background. And, would also suggest that you would need more then 4 gigs of ram for most other games as well, not just BF3.
Again, we need to start seeing more pics of BF3 memory consumption and stop posting system memory usage as BF3 memory usage.

Nothing changed on my computer besides the amount of ram and now I'm using more than 4 gigs. If BF3 has a memory leak, which may people say it does, then that would explain it. I pointed out the other stuff I have running to show that nothing was different between when I had 4 gigs and 8 gigs. I'm using more memory but the processes aren't different, I'm not saying this is conclusive evidence but I think it's relevant.

It can with a memory leak.

All these people lashing out are basing it on theory and not real world experience.

This is with barely anything running. I would expect most people's systems to go over 4GB with your standard apps running as well. So realistically, you should want over 4GB. BF3 itself doesn't do 4GB, but it's a large chunk and will put most over the 4GB of RAM.
