Did you ever play any of the previous Bethesda games? They are quite known for having major issues in their retail products, last being Fallout 3. But i have to admit, powering off my computer while playing is quite hardcore and it never happened to me before in any game.

It might be drivers, but the shutdown seems to occur on variety of (stable) systems, so it seems unlikely. You may want to try all the workgrounds suggested in this topic: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/456889-skyrim-complete-pc-crashes/page__st__600 but none of it is confirmed to work. Tomorow there should be a 1.2 patch, so we'll see.

Yes and I have never, ever had a game crash a known stable computer. A crash to desktop is one thing but a hard crash, a game should never do that. I wouldn't be looking at the game.

Because your system is so flawless that even the thought of your machine not being up to par with a game requiring specs that most computers can't handle. I think that's funny. You're funny.

What should i be looking at then. The crash usually occurs in specific situations in the game, like when i open the minimap or start a conversation with a certain NPC. I can play for hours, then i talk to NPC and it crashes. But it can be random too.

From the other forums:
Quote:
The error occurs on:
- 32 and 64bit systems
- ATI and Nvidia systems
- Desktop and mobile systems
- AMD and Intel systems
- Happens on retail or pirated Skyrim
- Not reproducible, happens totally random in different locations and on all software settings from Skyrim, can occur more often outdoors than indoors.

Fixes:
- Things that ppl try and don't help it much: formatting, driver adaption, turning off crossfire, lowering graphics (although for some people this may help) or any change to graphics (like turning off AA), windowed mode, adjusting sound settings to 44100, turning off background apps, underclocking video card (although seems to help for some?), changing catalyst AI to "high quality" and unchecking surface format optimization, using a program to make Skyrim use more than 2GB RAM, putting maximum processor usage on 70%, using the fix at http://forums.bethso...fficial-bugfix/ may have helped some not all.
- Many people seem to think it's the video card overheating and being overused while not necessary, making the video card crash. However underclocking, lowering settings to minimum and other such fixes doesn't help everyone. Some people get the crash even when their card isn't at dangerous temperature levels anyway.
- pretty much nothing seems to fully fix the problem
- patch..please?

What is funny? I have no idea what are you talking about. Look at the first page of this topic. I've tested my system for stability, so i am not quite sure how can it be faulty hardware. Which component exactly? Just because it was overheating in your case (most common cause of crashes in any game), doesnt mean everyone else have it the same. I never said my system is flawless, but it is certainly good enough to run this game.

Look, this game sold a ton of copies. I have never seen Steam report a quarter of a million people playing any one game simultaneously. Clearly there are going to be people reporting issues. A lot of people reporting issues probably don't game very often on their computer. I really don't think that these problems in that one thread on Bethsoft's own forum are related. I have yet to see any regulars on any tech site report similar that the game is crashing their computer.

Honestly, if I were you I would be looking at my overclock. Have you stress tested that recently? If so how? Are you running a beta driver? Maybe a reformat would help?

Like I said I have never had a game crash a stable computer, a crash to desktop is another story.

If your pc is crashing then it isn't stable. Just because one game runs fine means nothing. You are comparing apples to oranges.

No game should ever crash your computer. It could be some sort of software issue but it isn't the games fault. Are your chipset drivers up to date? Bios? Audio driver? Are you running an overclock? How have you stress tested it?

A game does not have the type of access needed to crash your computer. If it is causing the display driver to crash then wouldn't that be the display drivers fault? Have you tried prime blend recently? Its a very good test for sandy bridge. I've had cpu clocks become unstable over time. It wouldn't hurt to check. Run it overnight so you'll know that its not your cpu.
