I was hoping for something better from EVGA.... shame.

These are the real deal - and their tech support is top notch - no need to look anywhere else.

wow, they really cannot make a well designed board if their life depended on it now that shamino is gone.....

EVGA's lineup wouldn't necessarily be my first choice either, but I don't see how these boards aren't well designed. Just because there's not as many SATA ports as, well, any of the other third-party X79 products and there aren't 8 RAM slots shouldn't be deal breakers for many people. Honestly, I don't want any third party fake SATA weirdness. I'd rather they not waste money putting Marvell crap on there that I wont use, and rather leave it off, save me the expense, and let me use the difference to buy an Areca or LSI RAID card. As for the RAM, I've crowed about how 4 slots isn't enough for everybody and so on and so forth, but for the bulk of EVGA's market, it really is. It's not like Asus only putting 4 slots on their WS boards, for example. These are gaming oriented boards, and if EVGA felt that those extra 4 slots were worth sacrificing, I'm sure they had a good reason.

I really think the big issue that people have with these boards is that they look weird because they use POSCAPs. They do look weird. It remains to be seen if the POSCAPs are beneficial.

Now, having said all this, if I were in the market for an X79 board right now, I'd get the Rampage or the UD5.

I noticed this as well, was a bit dissapointed

X58A-OC uses all POSCAPs and I think it's one of the best boards ever made... both in functionality and looks!

I'd probably get the UD3 because of pricing.

underwhelming at the given pricepoints

Inability to write a decent bios (based off P67/Z68 series)

Lack of anyone of true talent (ASUS= shamino, Sapphire = other eVGA guys, Gigabyte = High C, biostar = couple people i can't name off the top of my head)

Totally riding brand rep

odd design choices (heatsink, sata, overhyping their PWM)

using FTW moniker (what, it's annoying.)

Don't get me wrong, their support is great, and stuff shamino had a part in was great, as well as when they sold reference boards, but now their products are kinda lukewarm and halfbaked.
