Skyrim: calling on all mages !

Thread Starter
Calling on all those that like to freeze, twizz and then fry their enemies ! I have been playing all out Dark Elf mage from day 1. Having a companion helps some. But for the most part, it is fairly easy to take on mobs as a mage - just have to run around a lot. I have taken down three dragons so far with relative ease with shock and fire. I am not quite sure what I am shooting for, so wants to see what all other mages are building towards. Taking down those giants at low level was fun! took me about 10 minutes or so! My nephew with his melee red guard cannot even come close to them !

My current build, I am pushing towards all out destruction with some conjuration. Got one point in restoration for the novice heal spell. I am not sure how many trees I can choose (or max out), but if I can do another tree, I might go for alteration to get the armor buffs.

Another build I was thinking of is more of a battle mage. Put points on light armor, one hand, and conjuration weapons. Use dual wielded conjuration weapons. May put a point or two on restoration for the sticky moments.

I run a Nord hybrid, battlemage, dagger stabber and archer. Level 21.

So far the most of my damage comes out of the bow and the fire destruction tree.

Mage duels are amazing, I put on my +75% regen clothes and rock da socks of mah opponent baby!! Fireballs are amazing biggrin.gif

It's just... I can't seem to find the big fireball. That one that BBAAAAHHHHHS the hell out of you, that one they fire and it sounds like a feraking nuclear bomb.

I'm doing a similar character build as I did with Oblivion. Mage for close range fighting, with sneak and archer for long ranged attacks. This combination has worked pretty good for me, especially since bows are stronger than they were in Oblivion.

I'm doing a level 23 high elf mage. Almost exclusively destruction magic. Pretty crazy stuff. I read somewhere that the only way to get the master level destruction spells is from a quest from Faralda at the Winterhold College, but when I talk to her she's not giving out any quests.

I'm gonna have to work on a Mage after i finish my first playthrough (lol Infinite?!). How do mages fare in large mob situations and against bosses like Kvenel in Volunruud? I had an extremely hard time with that guy on my current Red Guard one-handed Warrior. Even with crazy good armor and a sword that hits most enemies with 1-2 blows before dead, he was still picking me apart until I decided to use a Golem Scroll.

I wonder if there is gonna be any cool stuff for mages like they do the dragon armor (or whatever it is called). Razaice, what is your destruction level? At level 13, mine is at 58. Need to get it to 60 to hit harded with those spells.

@shoulin - imo, in open world, mages are pure win against whatever you throw at them. Lots of room to run around and shoot fire ball or whatever fancies you. Inside a dungeon, it can be dicy. Although, with a companion by my side, I have not had an issues. If there is enough room - even a table to circle around - bosses are meh with mages. At low level those undead mini bosses are hard for melee guys. But for a mage, they are cake. I have not encountered that boss yet. I have been doing a lot of mage quests and some misc quest from Whiterun.

Do the Winterhold College quests if you want to get some good stuff for a mage. My destruction is 92 right now. I've basically been working on only that since I started playing since being a mage is so fun in this game. I'm assuming you know this, but there's a destruction trainer at the college that really helps you raise your level. You just gotta make enough gold cause that gets expensive.

Im playing an Orc Battlemage. I never planned on being a mage, but casting a constant stream of healing, lightning and fire out of 1 hand and swinging my sword with the other has proven quite effective. I was hoping the double damage racial would also work for spells but I am not too sure if it's being applied to my spells or not. I just wish there were hotkeys for weapon sets/templates so you can switch between dual casting, dual weilding, and a hybrid of sword/spells with the push of a button. Also because I picked a non Mage race, my destruction started out much lower and I'm getting much faster level ups/perk trees, so far level 9 and steam rolling everything on expert. I did come across a non quest dragon that constantly owned me until I had to set the difficulty to the lowest setting.
